I’ve spoken to her and she’s really not bothered about chasing it up.
She wants to concentrate on her interview for aspen now. They’ll be ringing her in the next hour or 2. They actually saw her profile on linked in and approached her for an interview so sounding quite positive so far. It’s in a ski resort. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for her 😁 |

Fingers crossed for her.
Can I just say, if the message she received is an error, they may be expecting her to turn up on her start date? I think I’d be encouraging her to make contact even if she doesn’t want the job any longer tbh.

I’ve asked her to reply to the e-mail to at least acknowledge that she received it and she totally refuses to 😢

Why not? Responding to an email is no big deal.
She is also old enough to start to learn about the workplace and what is the appropriate way to behave. And in this case, she definitely needs to clear this up. I expect they will be waiting for her to start work on the agreed date and she is going to look like a no show. |

Totally agree.
Hospitality isn’t an industry I’m very familiar with but I wouldn’t want to get myself a bad reputation for acting in an unprofessional manner in any line of work. Not sorting this out properly now might affect her ability to get a job after university as you never know when and where your name will be remembered (this happens a lot in my line of work). If I was in your daughters shoes then a year in Aspen would sound much more appealing than a year in England so I can see why she’s not too motivated to try and sort it out. Is Aspen a placement that’s actually practical for her? Flights, accommodation, spending, visas etc. I’d expect cost of living in Aspen to be quite pricy. |

Sounds a bit like Camp America - DD just about broke even after paying for the experience.
DS is thinking about applying for a year abroad next year and I am already telling him he needs to save. Your DD needs more info - could her Uni give more advice re payment for the placement, living costs and expected salary? The last thing you need is that she can’t afford to go but has got herself caught up in the romance of it all. I also think she should contact her first placement and find out what’s going on. If Aspen happens then she can always politely decline/withdraw. If Aspen doesn’t happen she may regret it. |

Yeah I think she already knows it’s going to be too expensive for her
