I think it depends on the kids!
We had friends stay at Duck Key and the loved all the water activities there. We visited for few days before our cruise. Marathon was a good base to visit the state parks - John Pennecamp and Bahai Hoonda. Sadly winds were high so we couldn't do the snorkelling trip on a boat to reefs/ This prob is worth booking in hindsight. We did the drive down to the Keys and wandered around (and used free bus). We don't do relaxing well, so 3 days was enough!

I’d recommend Hawks Cay as a place to stay.
We stopped over for a night to break up our journey and wished we’d had longer. There’s lots for children to do provided you get up early to book! There’s a turtle hospital nearby too 😊 I’d probably agree that Key West might not be the best place. Whilst I’d happily take children, there’s not masses to keep them entertained. DS was 15 when we went which seemed about right. He loved Key West and can’t wait to go back. We love Miami Beach. We stayed 2 nights last time. Hired bikes, went to the botanic gardens, beaches etc. We also went in a Segway tour around the Art Deco district. Not sure on age restrictions for that. I’d recommend both Eden Roc and The grand beach hotel Surfside. The latter is further from the action but really well placed for a slightly quieter experience! There’s a Publix over the road and you can easily cycle safely on the beach paths Edited at 07:50 PM. |
