We just returned yesterday from our West coast trip which included three nights in the GC. We drove from Palm Springs to Tusayan which is just 1 mile outside the GC. We decided not to stay inside the GC due to costs. It took 6 hours to drive to Tusayan from Palm Springs and we stopped in Williams which is a small town about a hour from Tusayan, we picked up some snacks etc from the local supermarket which was similar to Publix. We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express which included indoor pool and free breakfast. We arrived Friday night. Saturday morning we were up early and had breakfast then we bought our pass which was $35 for a family pass for the week. We then got the shuttle bus into the GC. We spent a full day leaving about 5pm. Dinner options are limited in Tusayan so we just went to Wendy’s. The next day we returned to the GC by car this time and walked to a different part of the Canyon. After lunch ( we took sandwiches) we hired bikes for two hours and cycled which was amazing. We ate at the Maswick lodge as they have a cafeteria style dining room. Reasonably priced and lots of choice. We wanted to stay for sunset but our boys were exhausted and ready for the pool. Next morning we left for the next part of our trip. The location of the hotel was great for us without kids I would have stayed inside the park itself. Two days was also the right amount of time too.
