Sorry to hear this, you should get the taxes back for the flights. Whoever the flight was with, check their actual website to see how you go about it. If you have the physical tickets could you look at selling these perhaps to friends or colleagues that are travelling this year?

You can claim the taxes back onthe flights. This is likely to be a large percentage of the cost of the flight.
