Have you ever tried steaming your pudding in a slow cooker? I've made a Christmas pudding for years and was given this tip to free up space on my hob, plus it means I don't have to watch the pudding or top up the water.

I have an electric slow cooker I use for casserole cooking. On Christmas morning I put the pudding in the cooker and fill water up to about 2/3 of the sides of the bowl. Turn on the slow cooker and then just leave it. It doesn't matter if you want your pudding in the afternoon or in the evening the water won't dry out or boil over. Plus it means we get the lovely smell all around the house.

Yup, it works, I softened a tub of vanilla, mixed in the pud, (didnt blend it, as wanted chunky) then refroze, its like rum and raisin but with brandy!
