It might be a bit far off from where you're going but Tamiami Trail is meant to be good for wildlife including gators.
Hopefully we will travel that way from Fort Lauderdale to the Gulf Coast.

Hi have a look at everywhere you stay, every pool will have a looked gate and wire fencing so no unwelcome guests and all resort pools are checked every morning. There are also teams imployed all over Florida to move gators that have got into swimming pools

Have a look at Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. It is about 30 minutes drive from Disney area. It is a self drive tour which takes up to 3 hours & you will see lots of wildlife.

We have been to Blue Spring State Park 3 times and each time done the guided boat trip (large boat that takes about 20 passengers with a driver/guide - way to big for a gator to attack), each time we have had multiple gators pointed out to us as well as plenty of other wild life, the guides are very knowledgeable. There is also a natural lazy river (spring) to swim in, a board walk to walk along and spot wild life. A naturally beautiful place

We’ve seen loads this last week by the sides of the roads in the holding ponds as we drove about, we’ve even had one in the lake behind our villa.
There’s always one in here without fail along with all the turtles, it’s been eating all the baby ducks which was a shame seeing the mother with5 to start then 4 and so on and now she’s only got 1 left! |

If you have a car, drive the Black POint Wildlife Drive at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. We have fairly consistently seen gators on the side of the road. Your husband will be safe inside the car. I think there is a small, per vehicle charge (maybe $10.)
The entire refuge is worth a look. We have always seen manatees at the manatee outlook. |
