Free Dining Spare 14 Day Ticket
We are planning on getting one annual pass in our group for parking/discounts etc on our trip this December.
We also plan to stay onsite for 5-7 days next summer so it makes sense to take up the free dining offer. However as I understand it, we would have to buy tickets for everyone so we would have one spare as the person with an annual pass won’t need it. Can that spare pass be saved/reassigned for another trip as it will be completely unused? Edited at 09:10 AM. |

I don't think it can be reassigned no as it's linked to the free dining offer.

To get free dining you have to buy park ticket and hotel .( ie assigned to someone ) However if you have qsdp you may have enough credits between 3 to share between 4 depending on your group make up or buy a few meals oop .

I'd book the free dining promotion for the other 3, and then you can just stay in the room with them and use your annual pass. You won't get a magic band or dining credits, but it will be much cheaper for you to pay oop for a few meals than it will to pay for an extra ticket.

I'm not sure but I think you are over complicating things & just do the math, depending on how many days you are doing, FD will save you approx £250-£400 & that's a lot of parking & discounts IYKWIM An AP isn't far off 2x 14 day Ultimates, especially if you are buying one that you don't need!

The spare ticket from free dining doesn't have to be used for the August 2020 trip if you already have an annual pass. But the annual passholder will need to call Disney to get them to assign the Annual Pass instead of the Ultimate for the Aug 2020 trip for fastpasses etc, which will impact on the 60 day for the annual passholder. If unused, you should then be able to reassign/gift the "spare" ultimate to someone else: ask Disney how to do this.
As to the suggestion above of booking the room for 3 not 4, is it really worth the hassle? 7 days of adult free dining credits is likely worth the same/more than the cost of a single 14 day ultimate, and the annual passholder also wouldn't get a magic band to use as a room key? Thanks for the suggestions and advice. It’s actually my 14 ye old DS who would love to be a passholder, so we thought if we bought his annual in December it would be handy for parking etc and could be used for our August 2020 trip. Then free dining popped up and we thought we’d have a few days onsite too but the AP complicates that. He’s looking forward to it though so if there is a workaround it would make him happy!

The Disney ticket bought as part of the package to get free dining is usually linked to that particular hotel stay - i.e. it has to be first used before the check out date (it usually says as much in MDE).
Admittedly, the OP can probably get Disney to unlink it and link it to someone else in their party or use it at some other time but, as you say, this requires calling Disney. I wouldn't like to guarantee that they can unlink it. Also, they can't just give the spare Ultimate ticket to a random stranger. BTW, because it's a 2020 Ultimate ticket it will have to be used in 2020. The Annual passholder will get a free MagicBand - it comes as part of the Annual Pass. A 2020 14-day Ultimate ticket costs £450. So, for 7 days, that works out at around $85 per day. If the OP is staying at a moderate resort and getting free QSDP then it would definitely be cheaper to pay out of pocket. A QS meal costs around $20 and snacks are around $5 - so, roughly $50 per day OOP. If they are staying at a deluxe resort and getting the free DDP then it's a bit more borderline. It depends on whether they plan to spend more or less than $55 on the table service meal they would get per day on the DDP. It might be worth it in this case. Having said all that, if the 4th person is not registered as staying onsite at that Disney hotel then they won't be able to use EMH and other onsite privileges.
