Where's the Mouse? Day 10 - Mamma Mia

Where’s the mouse? Day 10. Mamma Mia!

Written by Jools, photographs by Bill.

Today we were up at 9 and went to the owners lounge for the complimentry Marriott owners breakfast. This consisted of lots of very high calorie sugary things. I had a cinebon type gooey thing with a couple of glasses of orange juice. Bill just had the juice.

We then set off to have a further look at the strip. We walked past a row of shops selling t-shirts and the like and it reminded us of a typical UK seaside place, only instead of the sea we had the mountains to look at.

The roads and pavements were a lot quieter than they had been when we arrived last night. We walked to the Luxor and Excaliber and shared a huge banana split in the Excalibur for lunch. Oh we were eating healithy today.

After the healthy lunch we went back to our pad and went for swim at the rooftop pool which cooled us down nicely. We spent about an hour in the sun/pool before going back inside as we were going to see our first ever Vegas show that night – Mamma Mia.

We left the resort at 6 and decided to drive to the show. It wasn’t far to walk but we wanted to stay cool in the car. We valet parked at the Luxor (as we knew where to go) and went to the food court for a snack before the show started at 7.30 in the neighbouring hotel – The Mandalay Bay. I had a Mcdonalds cheeseburger and a vanilla latte from Starbucks. Bill had a philly cheesesteak sandwich and a root beer from another place in the foodcourt. We really like to dine well before a show and no expense was spared (around $15).

We went into the Mandalay Bay to find the theater in there. Once in we handed in our tickets and went to the theater. Wow this place was fabulous. It was hard to think it was actually inside a hotel as it was a proper theatre. We were early and waited near the doors to the auditorium. Shortly a huge line had formed behind us and some people started to argue about people who had queue jumped. We never intended to form a queue as everyone had numbered seats anyway. It kept us amused though. After about 15 minutes the doors to the auditorium were opened and we went inside. We had very good seats in what I suppose would be termed the upper circle in a UK theatre. We were in the front row of that area so had no one in front of us.

The show itself was fantastic. It is set on a greek Island and is about a girl who is getting married and invites 3 men who could all potentially be her father to her wedding. It was really funny and the music was great. The cast played 3 encore’s and we left the theater in high spirits after a very good night.

We had also bought tickets from a place on the strip to see the American superstars at the Stratosphere. We were given vouchers rather than tickets so we drove to the Stratoshpere to exchange the vouchers for tickets. On our way we passed a smart looking shopping Mall and put that on our to do list. When we arrived at the Strat we parked up and went to find their theatre. Once at the box office we exchanged our vouchers and made a reservation for Wednesday night. We will also be having a buffet dinner there before the show and were given tickets to go up the Stratosphere Tower.

We then had a look around the Casino and big spenders as ever placed $1 in the slot machine. We won $5.85 from the $1. We are not gamblers as you can tell, but do enjoy placing small amounts on the slots. The money lasts for ages and it makes us feel like we are playing with the big boys.

It was after midnight by this time so we headed back to our resort. We’d had little to eat throughout the day (and all junk at that), so we went into the 24 hour shop in the lobby and bought Frosties, bread, butterand cheese slices. I was delighted to see they sold half and half milk as it is delicious. We tried it last year when we stayed at the boardwalk with Bob and Dawn. We bought a pint of half and half for me and Bill got ordinary milk for himself. We had our supper of Frosties and toast, watched Trainspotting on TV and went to bed for the night. I think we could get to like Vegas!

Another great day. Well your banana split was fruit... that's healthy.

The show sounded very good, not one I would have considered seeing but I might possibly enjoy it.

Thanks for the report,

Dawn

Didn't you spot the Walgreens as you drove up to the Stratosphere hotel? It's opposite the Stardust, next door to Dennys!

Sounds like you are having a great time, i love Vegas!

Lol Tracie, yes we spotted Walgreens. I was happy to see lots of them on the strip. I reckon we are also getting to love Vegas and the beautiful surrounding area.
