Ideas for stay on Gulf Coast cape coral
We've just booked for next year, 8 nights on gulf coast staying n Cape Coral and 9 nights in Orlando.
We've never visited the gulf coast for longer than a day trip to Clearwater so this area is new territory for us. We would welcome any ideas, info etc.. on this area from beaches, things to do, places to eat etc.. |

We've stayed in CC before and staying for 3 weeks again this summer. It's a good central location. You're not far from Sanibel and Captive Islands which are beautiful. Naples is to the south and Fort Myers not too far. There's plenty to see and do.

Our villa is in Cape Coral and there is loads to do. From Rumrunners waterfront restaurant you can take a dolphin cruise and see all the great sights. There is also a local beach on CC where there is a lovely restaurant called The Boathouse beside the pier and on CC there is the usual stores (TJMaxx, Ross, Target, WalMart, Publix, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc) Over the causeway, in Ft Myers there is one of the largest Malls in Florida (Miromar) as well as Coconut Point Mall and many more. One of the main attractions is of course Ft Myers beach and Islands - Captiva and Sanibel where the beaches are beautiful and a popular spot to watch a great sunset is The Mucky Duck restaurant. There are beaches all over SW Florida, as well as water parks, dolphin cruises, golf courses, parks and many attractions.

Cape Coral is fantastic. We did August there in 2013 and hope to go back next August.
Shopping round that way is amazing - our favourites were Coconut Point, Tanger Outlets and Miromar. There are definite bargains to be had, because you're out of Orlando (and the full on tourist area) things can be considerably cheaper. Beaches are superb with lovely, lovely sand. Sanibel is worth a visit but beware that there is a toll on the bridge to get there of about $6 or $7 - worth it though as the shells are beautiful and you're on holiday Our favourite beach was Manasota and that had a big free car park I seem to remember. We had our first experience of Sonny's bbq in Cape Coral on the Pine Island Road and the ones in or near Orlando have not come close to that one. Very good value and excellent food every time we went there (we stayed in CC a month and had quite a few visits there ). Tuesday was kids eat free and the amount of great food and beer we got for less than $40 was ridiculous. Also on the Pine Island Road was a good old fashioned 50's style diner called Mel's - it was a really good experience, good food and absolutely full of locals which is always a good sign. If I think of anything else I'll update the post but feel free to ask questions if you have any.

Fordsgarageusa.com looks great. You can build your own burger. There's branches at Cape Coral, fort Myers and miromar. Can anyone give me recommendations on where to stay in this area please?

In Cape Coral you really want to be in South or South West areas - near the causeways to Ft Myers as the North and NW areas are further away and do not have as many amenities, shops, restaurants etc - zip codes 33904 and 33914 are suitable. I would also recommend you choose a villa that is south facing as you get the sun from sunrise to sunset. Ft Myers locations are also good but more expensive. If you choose the Islands (Sanibel & Captiva) you will pay a small fortune for accommodation, food, etc but the location is wonderful. I also recommend Fords Garage restaurants - the one in CC down at the pier is great.

we're heading back to cape coral for our second trip and what can say about it
it's so relaxing and a utterly beautiful place to stay, it's a totally different pace to orlando we had relaxing villa days, sitting out on the pool deck or on the boat dock out back of the villa with my husband "hopefully" fishing trips out to fort myers beach, Sanibel and Captiva and of course the small local beach, there are outdoor bbq's free to use on this beach and clean public toilets, take a disposable bbq, food and a cool box and you're all set for the day, this little beach also has a good restaurant and paddleboards to hire there's also a marina with places to eat and shop in cape coral and larger shopping outlets easily within a 30 min drive and the sun splash water park every tues there is a local farmers market we did lots and still had a really relaxing break, we had wonderful dolphin sunset cruise from Captiva and also visited the Ding darling Nature reserve hope this helps Edited at 07:59 PM. |

You can hire a boat and go right out to sea from Cape Coral. We rented one a couple of years ago with friends and it was a fab day out. We went out past Sanibel and Captiva and up to Useppa Island. It was roughly $300 and we also had to pay for the fuel. You can also take a commercial boat trip from Cape Coral, Ft Myers and Captiva. The great thing about SW Florida is that you are never far from water, be it the beaches, the canals, the causeways, etc. We particularly enjoy dining looking out onto water - the number of times we have watched dolphins has been brilliant. Even the massive Malls are situated near water. I would recommend going down to Tarpon Point and visiting the Nauti Mermaid restaurant - stunning location.
