Getting Excited

Virgin could learn an awful lot from BA

I booked my summer 2021 holiday during the BA sale last month. Going for 4 weeks, 2 Adults and 2 children aged 6. Economy flights Lgw to MCO direct. Early morning flight out and late evening return flight home. Booked part of my hotel stay with them as well. Staying in Hilton buena vista palace at Disney Springs for 10 nights. Total cost was £2800.

Today I randomly checked the cost again after the sale and it had decreased further by about £400. As we now have the flexibility to change our bookings with no fee due to Covid I rang BA to see if I could get the lower price. Got speaking to someone within 5 minutes, she advised that yeah there was two ways which it could be applied, either they could change the price to the lower fare or I would have to cancel take the voucher and rebook at the lower fare. She checked with a manager, she explained to me that normally I should have to cancel and get the voucher but as a gesture to save any inconvenience to me they agreed to change the cost there and then and dropped the price by £415. New holiday cost was £2385. Job done. Hotel costs £100 per night so £1385 for direct flights at those times seems a good deal to me. 15 mins of my time saved me over £400.

Obviously if this was normal times and my booking would not have included the flexibility I would never even of considered ringing. The book and never look back approach may not be the best approach in these time.

Also shows that sales are not always the best time to book but you have to book sometime and really at the minute it’s win win for us that want to go.

On the other hand Virgin Holidays still haven’t refunded me yet and it was cancelled 153 days ago.

I’ll be getting my money back from Virgin this Xmas- I’m not getting a voucher as I have 2 BA holidays booked and am sticking with them now, as they have done much better than Virgin.
