The Who, What, Why, Where, When and How bit!

Who?  We are a family of five (plus Dog) about to embark on their Second “Holiday of a lifetime”.  After a year’s constant yearning (on my part) we are going on our “Back to the Future” Trip!

Fiona (Me, 36, DBoardsaholic) – Author, only of these reports in case you think I’m famous! Holiday Planner/ Booker, Wife, Mother, Commando and general useless dogsbody.  Recently become a scrapbooking addict.  Hoping weather is as good as last year.

Steve (DH, 36) – IT consultant, husband, father and Disney Dysfunctional - thanks Kath!  Beer taster and whipping in duties.  Likes the sun, still worried February will be too cold as last year’s weather was exceptional!  Wound up the last trip saying we could go back to Disney in 5 years time, Feb 2006, hence “Back to the Future.”

Kate (DD1, 12) – Just as keen to go back to Disney as she was last year.  Even more embarrassed by parents and sister now that she is years older!  An awful lot of shopping required beforehand for correct clothes!  Well she is an “adult” now according to holiday company brochures.

Laura (DD2, 9)  Fantasmic Laura, nutty rollercoaster fan and supplier of big grins!

Sally (DD3, 5½)  Has two moods, Eeyore or Tigger!  Faces to match!  Beware, getting big for her boots!

What?  A two week holiday to Florida as last year’s was so good, and it gives us something to look forward when the post Christmas Blues set in.

Why? Whoops did that in What!

Where?  This isn’t working, need the How? bit first!

When and How?  That was the hard bit, persuading DH and finding the money!  When someone posts that the Daily Mail are doing “10 bargain destinations a Day with BA” in Novemeber, I wonder if there’s a chance Florida will be included.  I rush to the paper shop at 7.45 each morning and on Day 8 (Friday) Tampa is there, at £179 per adult.  Ring DH, still too expensive!  Boo.

Day 9 (Sat) Woo Hoo it’s Orlando for £149, the Man from Del Monte Say Yes!  We were online at 8.50, and at 9 nothing happened, no availability, kept refreshing and suddenly YES YES YES Out Sunday 3rd Feb and Back Sunday 17th Feb (Half term 9-17th Feb).  A race against time, I’m doing one booking for me and the girls and Steve is doing a separate one on the other computer as only 4 tickets can be booked at once.  The system won’t allow me to buy an adult’s ticket for a child not yet turned 12.  Risk altering her age, and… “sorry all flights for those dates have gone”  and all other dates we could possibly fly on.  Sob, it was not meant to be.  Rang up and pointed out the bug in the BA booking system and was told there was no need to enter ages, grrrrr.

Day 10 (Sun) Half heartedly go to paper shop, YES YES YES they are doing Miami as well!  £129.  Slight problem as Steve is asleep in bed!  Kick him awake, drag him downstairs log him on and dictate instructions.  No Sunday 17th this time so go with Monday 18th.  I send my form, accepted!  He sends his, milliseconds later, accepted!  He goes back to bed and asleep and remembers nothing!  We’re going on holiday…. £575 total for 3 adults and 2 children, so far!

With all the wonderful DIS help I book Coronado Springs at $89 a night (Winter Getaway code), US/IOA Annual Passes for $99 each (and all thanks to Angel who buys them for us at Christmas before the offer expires)  Hard Rock Hotel for $99, AP rate! , special offer 7 day hopper plusses for £820, 3 adults and 2 children, and a full size car through Priceline for £330 for 15 nights, and a night at a Travel Inn near Heathrow inc 21 nights parking for £79.  Oh, and an annual family travel policy for £89, could have done better there!

About £3 300 for 3 adults 2 children scheduled flights, car hire, passes, 5 nights at HRH and 10 nights at CS, insurance, parking and UK hotel.

Never did sort out how we were paying for it, but at least this way the credit card is hit in dribs and drabs!
