Hope all goes well when you get the results.
DH was diagnosed with prostate cancer this summer but they aren’t going to treat it at the moment and he is on active surveillance, his next blood test is next week. He is in his mid fifties and went to the doctor with symptoms which then disappeared but they had already done a PSA test and realised there was a problem.

UPDATE

Hi guys.

Just got pathology results back from DH's prostatectomy.

Grade and Gleason score stayed the same (which is good), tumour was bigger than the mri showed, but despite being close the margins are clear. So much relief.

First PSA test after Xmas, but consultant seems to think it will be a formality.

I'm relieved, but numb to be honest. It's been one heck of a year. This first reared it's head in March and my anxiety has gone through the roof at times.

Anyways consultant told us to go and book a holiday, so guess where we will be off to?!

Get yourself checked out guys.

V

Fantastic news, really pleased. My friend of 50 years didn’t have good news today - diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. Surgery not possible so it’s going to be a long haul of hormone therapy and radiotherapy. We’ve got our fingers crossed for him.

Excellent news, so please for you.
Now how the hell do I persuade my DH to go get tested, no symptoms of anything but I'd really like him to get tested anyway - I always think its good to accept any free check that's available for anything!
Get that holiday booked - Might be some deals on Black Friday !

Thanks guys.

Wizard, my DH had no symptoms. In fact with this beast when symptoms appear it is probably too late. It is NEVER normal to go to the toilet more as men age, which is a common myth. Consultant told us we were lucky it was picked up randomly.

A blood test and a quick d.r.e exam really can save lives.

My husband was refused a PSA by his GP when he was 50. He told him there were too many false positives and was very dismissive. At 56 he went back with symptoms. They were probably caused by a simple infection and actually got better on their own. Luckily he had a PSA test anyway. Raised levels led to a biopsy and it turned out his Gleason score was already 7 (4+3 so quite bad). He handled radiation well (although had to stop hormone treatment due to side effects) and is now "cured".

It was very lucky that the coincidental infection meant he went to the doctor but very frustrating that it could have been caught earlier.

It has also been lucky for his younger brother who only went for a test when DH told him to. He is currently undergoing radiation with a Gleason score of 3+4 as his was caught earlier.

That’s good news. Will he need further surveillance? X
