I didn’t want to explain what was actually happening because I didn’t want to upset her or explain the meaning, but I didn’t have to. She grasped the emotion of the situation and when I told her that we could carry on her bright and joyful little chatter continued and brought a smile to my face.
And you have kindly and gently taught her that respect we were talking about. X

If the hearse is on a single carriageway then I wouldn't overtake and I think it would be disrespectful to do so. Dual carriageway I would overtake but adjust my speed right down so not to 'blast' past the hearse. I've come across many processions whilst driving emergency vehicles and would always switch off the sirens and adjust speed out of respect, just takes a few seconds, same thing when you see a horse in the road.
