Our 'one last time' trip- October 2018 - Day 13 - Mini Golf & Animal Kingdom

Ellie came into our bed in the night as she had a nightmare. Luckily the bed was huge and so much bigger than the one at home and there was plenty of room. The 3 of us woke around 8.15 and Leah was already up and reading.

The girls and Dan had cereal for breakfast and I imagine I would have had a cereal bar. I did a quick hit workout again and then we all got ready for the day.

We were heading to Winter Summerland again today to play the winter course as Ellie had been desperate to go back ever since playing the Summer course. We arrived at 10 so probably left just after half 9. Even though we arrived when it opened there was still a 10 minute wait for Winter but we decided to wait as we had never done this one before.

We sat on the bench and waited while the girls played in the sleigh – it was chilly after last nights storm and I wished I brought a cardigan out. This was the first time this trip though!

We decided not to give the kids a handicap this time as they clearly didn’t need it! As we were called and started the first hole it started to snow much to the kids delight!

I started off badly but halfway through I got into it and got about 4 hole in ones! The scores ended up being even! Me and Dan on 39 and Leah and Ellie on 48!

We were done and on our way back to the villa by 10.55. Mini golf this trip never took as long as I thought – I guess because it was never really busy and we never had much of a wait. But it was a nice chilled way to spend the morning.

We headed back to the villa to grab an early lunch before heading to Animal Kingdom for the afternoon/evening. I did bagels, strawberries and some crisps for lunch and Dan made a couple of work calls. We were ready to head back out again at around 12.30, arriving at Animal Kingdom at 12.50. We parked in Peacock 12 which was close enough to the entrance to walk which I was overly pleased about as it meant not having to wait around for a tram later.

Once we were through bag check and the turnstiles the plan was to head straight for Pocahontas, but when I checked the times guide it showed her on a break from 1 until 2.40 so instead we headed to use one of our extra fast passes on Kali River Rapids. On our way we stopped to take a couple of pictures as the park looked so beautiful today and the girls had a go on the drums.

Once we got to KRR I sat this one out – being a wimp with drops and not fancying getting wet. It had warmed up nicely now though and I watched from the bridge, enjoying the sunshine.

As they came out we had a photopass photo and Leah asked for a magic shot. It wasn’t the best as the kids weren't even looking in the right direction

The girls wanted to ride again and it was only posted as a 20 minute wait so we let them and it didn’t even take that long. The kids loved it and would have quite happily gone again but I said if we wanted to ride Kilimanjaro before the nemo show then we needed to head over there now so they reluctantly left it!

I love Kilimanjaro – and we had another great safari. We were sat in the back row again which I prefer because you get a better chance at seeing the animals.

We saw loads of giraffes and even the elephants were out and about!

Once we had finished here Pocahontas was off her break so we headed to her greet spot, Dan popped into Starbucks on the way and we met him in the que. He got a caramel macchiato which was $5.64. We qued for about 10 minutes and it was a lovely meet. Ellie had her Pocahontas doll to show her and she was really enthusiastic about it. She gave the girls some acorns as well and told them to give them to Meeko if they saw him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t meeting with her today like he was when we had seen her last time.

Another character ticked off our list we headed to Dinoland to use the restrooms and tried to meet Chip and Dale but they had gone on there break too, instead Dan used my extra FP on Expedition Everest. He said he preferred it today as it felt faster! Next we headed to our prebooked FP at Nemo, we got there at 3.45 for the 4pm show and were about 7 rows back. I enjoyed this as always and the girls loved it. I think you get a better view from the back though.

After our Nemo FP we had booked meet Minnie and Mickey at Adventures Post for 5 – 6. I didn’t even realise we were early until the ring didn’t go green and I realised – the CM let us through though and we were the only people in the FP que. We waited about 10 minutes and the standby was 35. Ellie got quite grumpy here and I think she was getting hungry so I promised we would head for food as soon as we had finished here. The meet was good and the girls got plenty of hugs and we got a picture of us all together. Although we had met Minnie and Mickey already – I wanted to get a picture here to compare to our 2014 and 2016 ones. Although this was the first year they hadn’t been in there Christmas jumpers.

I had wanted to try out the new (ish) Sautli Canteen so we headed to Pandora. Me and Dan ordered the chopped chicken bowl, me with whole grain rice and balsamic vingarette and he got rice and sweet potatoe hash with green onion vingarette. Both the kids had the kids chicken and rice meal. Leah had a sprite, Ellie had a chocolate milk and me and Dan shared a Diet Coke. They warned us at the till that the drinks were only small but when it came it was plenty big enough for the two of us especially as we had bottles of water as well. Me and Dan enjoyed the food here, Ellie ate all of hers but Leah got upset because she didn’t like the rice. I gave her some of my chicken and she ate that and I gave her a couple of snacks so she wasn’t starving. I promised we would find a mickey ice cream when we had all finished to make up for it.

The restaurant is bigger than I first thought and its quite impressive when you look around. Leah liked there beds in the ceiling.

We left Sautli Canteen and asked the nearest CM where to get a mickey bar from – she directed us out of Pandora land so we headed that way and the girls pin traded on the way. When we got there Leah decided she wanted a frozen banana instead and Ellie got a Mickey Ice Cream bar.

Leah had a few bites and said she didn’t like the banana either! She hadn’t had much luck with food today but I was proud of her for trying new things. Next we had our Navi River Journey FP which cheered her up – she had really enjoyed this ride and was excited to go on with Dan as he hadn’t rode the other day.

We got in the FP que which was held up because the family in front of us didn’t actually have a FP. The CM was explaining to them that they couldn’t just walk up and scan their 3 FP’s they actually had to book them but they weren’t understanding. Either that or they were playing dumb to try and just get on the ride. She let them through in the end and they ended up in the same boat as us frustratingly. It is quite a dark ride to give the full effect of the lights etc and this lady filmed the whole thing with her camera light on – she’d film the ride and then turn around filming her son’s face with absolutely no regard to the fact it meant we had a glaring light in our face. Dan was getting more angry and Leah was getting more upset that he wasn’t enjoying the ride and I was just trying to jolly everyone along! He wanted to say something to her but I hate confrontation so asked him to leave it. But it was such a selfish attitude.

As soon as the CM at the end saw she had her light on he shouted at her to turn it off but by then the ride was over. As we got out the boat Dan mentioned it to the CM and he said we could ride again –it obviously wasn’t his fault so he wasn’t complaining as such just voicing his frustration. Ellie didn’t want to so me and her waited outside but Dan and Leah could at least have the full experience. He said it was so much better without the light and he made sure he thanked the CM for letting them ride again.

When we came out it was starting to get dark – we had hoped to see Pandora in full effect at night but also wanted to catch rivers of light which started at 7.30 tonight so didn’t want to hang around too long.

We waited a bit longer but then gave up and left and got to Rivers of Light for 7.10. We were sat in the front row of the last section of the standby section. There was a boat in the way of the projections before hand but luckily it moved. I wasn’t blown away by this – I mean it was good but by Disney standards it just didn’t have the WOW factor that other shows have for us. I don’t know if the projections would have been more impressive from a different angle and it was just due to our seats. I probably would watch again – but wouldn’t rush to see it.

For some reason I thought it finished at 8 but it was done by 7.45. The park closed at 8 tonight so I quickly marched the kids back over to Pandora so we could see it properly in the dark. It was worth it as was so pretty with all the colours and lights. We had a memory maker photo and wandered around taking some pictures.

It was like a different place at night. We used the restrooms and then headed for the exit – Dan considered getting in the que for FOP but it was still showing as 3 hours and looked pretty long. There weren’t many people around on our walk out and it was nice to see the park in a different way.

We left at about half 8 and were able to walk back to the car, avoiding the que for the trams. We got back to the villa at about 8.50 and put Family Feud on and snacked on chocolate coins from our pirates and pals voyage. Ellie brought her cover and pillow in and we snuggled under it while we watched and Leah read.

Tomorrow we were due to watch Happily Ever After but thunderstorms were due. I had everything crossed the weather would come through for us. Me and Dan were in bed for 10.30 again.

Well done Leah and Ellie!

Animal Kingdom is such a pretty park isn't it, I love the theme here.

Love the photo with Pocahontas, I wish we'd looked at the meets leaflet and squeezed some in.

I've heard a few people say they think it went faster another time, I wonder if it does change?

How rude of the woman! I know you don't like confrontation but I'd have said something. I hate selfish people. It's lovely that the CM allowed you to go back on again though.

I felt the same about RoL it's not something we'd do again.

Another fab day xx

Thank you - it really is! Ah its hard to squeeze it all in though isn't it!

I have heard that too - maybe it does!

I know I need to work on that! I think I just felt it wasn't worth it because we had ridden before. I just don't understand how people can be so inconsiderate but thankfully the CM saved the day!

No I definitely wouldn't rush to do it again - its a shame because all the other shows I love! xx
