BA economy seat advice

Hi All;

Wondering whether to pay to book seats now for our April ‘22 trip. BA are charging around £40 per seat at the moment, and whilst I know this is annoying, I don’t want to wait and find it significantly increases. I’m also nervous about not booking and finding we are split up on the flight (2 adult, 2 kids, 12&6).

The aircraft is showing as A350, and I wondered if anybody had advice or experience. Is it better to be nearer the back or the front etc? I was thinking of back row, or closer to the rear. Nearer to toilets etc. The other tricky point is how to make 4 seats work best in a 3-3-3 cabin.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

I like nearer to the front on either far side on the plane. A 3 +3 (window, middle and 2 aisles). I don’t think you need to book them quite yet. Seat prices should remain pretty steady.

If it's a direct flight, towards the front on the outbound so you're not behind a plane full of people at immigration. Doesn't matter so much on the return so if you think you'll like the back, go for it.

Unless you really need/want a window seat, my preference is 2x2 in the centre. That way if there is someone next to you, they won't need to disturb you to get access to the ailse. And if you get lucky, it won't be filled (most people seem to prefer the sides so they go faster) so will have the full row. Otherwise as above - 3 in the window side and then 1 opposite in the centre.

I'm pretty sure the seat prices are fixed depending on your route and class, so shouldn't go up closer to the flight. Unless they raise the booking fare in general.

As you have an under 12 in your party BA should pre allocate you all together around 5 days before the flight. You will be able to see these on your booking.
Unless you want a specific seat most people wait until check in as it’s free to choose then. Unless you have the basic ticket.
If you don’t like the seats you have been given you can move them.
Personally nearer the front is better and I wouldn’t be selecting seats near the toilet for two reasons. The smell, and people tend to line up next to your seat.
Although window seats are nice, two rows in the middle is the best option in your case so you don’t get stuck or have to move to let somebody out.

Sorry to hijack your post but is there anyway to see what seats are available before you book with BA? You can with VA but i cant seem to find it on the BA site, wanting to do a last minute booking but want to see first if i can get seats together

Yeah. Just do a dummy booking. 😊 walk through the booking without putting your card details in.

In November, I have a connecting flight from Edinburgh with BA in the morning via LHR, meaning I can check in 48 hrs before the LHR flight is due to take off which is in the afternoon

We had ours booked but was due to getting a connecting flight so wanted to be near front to give us time to change as it turned out our flight was cancelled now been moved to a direct flight she even moved our booked flight seats too. Last time I didn't book in advance and almost went mad doing dummy runs to see if seats where booking up ! Good luck which ever way you go.

You can check in for both flights from when the EDI-LHR flight opens for check in which may not be 48 hours before - it all depends on your connection timings.
