I am one of those legitimate users who never needed it on previous trips as I could manage on FP+ alone as I don't do many attractions in the first place. I am planning to get a DAS this trip even though it's even less focused on attractions mostly to see how the new system works.
Agreed I often go with someone that is eligible for DAS but we have managed with fastpass+, this will be the first time us using it.

Not planning to go til end of 2023 so hopefully I can understand it all by then.
Honestly I'd be really surprised if you need genie+ as well, when you ride your first ride book your next one, chances is by the time you've actually done the ride and walked over to your next one, it will probably be time.

.
I agree that abuse is low, but I'd prefer to show evidence. We always bring written evidence from the GP and offer it up. Disney never look at it but the Universal guest services always take a look. Universal always ask more probing questions, which I have no issue with.

I think companies in the US are not actually allowed to ask for proof.

It was my understanding that they’re not allowed to ask for proof, I didn’t know Universal would, so will make sure I take DD’s diagnosis letter

They don't ask for it at Universal either. But they will look at it, where Disney don't.

Never needed to use DAS before because we too could manage with the fast pass system but will use it for our next visit. In a way I want Disney to ask for our proof as I feel like I want to provide it as I feel a little guilty. I don’t know why though. I will be taking our DLA forms with us and our diagnosis letters just in case.

Is there a list of accepted illnesses, disabilities etc that both Disney and Universal accept. Both the girls we foster have FASD and have been diagnosed and would struggle massively with the queues.

No, it's based on individual need rather than a specific illness list. You don't even need to mention their condition if you don't want to, it's more a discussion around what issues they have with queuing and whether a pass would be the best help for that. This is for Disney anyway. I don't do Universal. But I suspect it's much the same.

I understand the guilt though. I went for years hiding my conditions as I can pass as "normal" the majority of the time. Still learning to ask for and accept help.
