Car hire getting worse!

Just thought I would share…. About a month ago Andy from DFCH got us a cracking deal on a convertible for next September … Pick up at Universal Portofino Bay and drop off at MCO . We are actually staying at Royal Pacific so after reading another thread today about collecting a car from Royal Pacific , I e.mailed Andy and asked if we could amend our booking .Not that the walk to Portofino is unpleasant ….far from it actually it would just be more convenient!
He got back to me really fast saying ….. Yes the Royal Pacific was now showing as a pick up location ….. BUT ….. IT WAS GOING TO INCREASE THE PRICE FROM ….£579….. TO ……. £2751 ! He even then put …. No that isn’t a Typo !,
😳😲😲😳
As you can imagine we are staying with the Portofino pick up !

It’s like US car rental has just lost the plot

All the good prices for my dates are gone. We booked with Costco for Hertz and paid £622 for two weeks and 2 days in an SUV and at the time we could have had a small premium SUV direct with Hertz for a few pounds more (but smaller car) and doing the Avis Universal resort pick up was a decent price for a full size car. Those prices are all gone now so I’m glad we booked when we did.

This is the point of sharing the deals on here though. They’re short lived and you have to jump on them.

It’s not getting worse, it’s the same as it’s been for the last 18 months.

Your new quote is a totally new booking. You booked when there was a deal for your dates and now you’re looking when there isn’t.

It's a f-----ing nightmare! Over £1,100 for 14 days car hire!
The problem for me is I have a £550 car hire voucher through Argus so I need to use them again. At the time that would have covered all 14 days but now it only covers half the cost. Madness.

Can you collect at a point away from the airport. Use an uber to get there.

The only issue with this is, like ours, by the time we escape from MCO most of the offsite locations are closed for the day. In our case it’s not a massive issue, we just booked a night at a hotel and we’ll get an Uber from the airport.

Could stay at one of the universal hotels for that first night. Make advantage of the early admission as most people are up early doors after the flight previous day.
Then collect car from one of their hotels when leaving.
That way you can offset the no resort parking fee from the uber cost.
Cars seem cheaper from universal aswell
