What car insurance needed for US ?
I'm posting on behalf of my brother and family who are joining us on next year's holiday. We have always booked our hire car through Andy, car on the drive or BA, we have booked Andy for next year. My brother insits he can find cheaper deals himself for their car but he's not clued up on insurance at all, he booked a SUV last week and was over the moon it only cost £500. I obviously thought price was too good to be true and on looking at his booking confirmation it didn't even include CDW 🤦
What insurance should he be looking for ? We have only ever had it all included so no idea what he should be covered for ? Any advice ? Thanks

If you pop on to what Andy supplied to you last time you will see the cover that he and others such as Virgin etc supply.
Basically you want and in no particular order CDW SLI at $1 Million Airport user fee All taxes Tire disposal Registration fee Battery disposal Hopefully second driver free but not many do that

That's really helpful thanks, I did actually suggest to my brother to look at Andy's site to compare insurance.
He says lots of conflicting advice on internet and not legal requirement to take extra insurance. Not much else I can do but advise what you quoted above, thank you 👍

Hi Bee, tell him to drop Andy an email and ask for an offline quote, andy@discountfloridacarhire.co.uk - if he's booked car hire without insurance he may find he'll be presented with a large insurance bill at the car hire desk with a possibly a high figure for excess... on the other side of the coin, if he won't take your advice let him hang as he grows!

Your brother might well be right about the legal requirement but please let him know this.
If he elects not to have CDW (with no excess) first of all he should expect them putting a large hold on his credit card which may be removed if he returns the car undamaged. If he returns the car with any damage then he will be deemed at fault and the hold will stay on his credit card until blame is resolved. If your brother is held at fault he can expect to pick up the whole repair bill. Secondly, and in my opinion, far more importantly if he elects not to have any SLI (aka third party liability) and is the cause of a crash in which he injures someone tell him to prepare for bankruptcy. Thank you so much for great advice. I have passed it all on, as I said it's up to him now 🤷
