We’ve tweaked next year’s holiday, and adding Toronto (which worked out cheaper!). 2 adults and 2 kids (16 & 14):

1/8 - LHR to Toronto direct
5/8 - Toronto to Miami direct
5/8 1 day car rental from Miami to Lake Buena Vista
11/8 - 22/8 people carrier car rental - pick up Hard Rock return Miami Int.
22/8 - Miami to LHR direct

£3460 all with BA.

We’ve got 6 nights YC and villa booked, just need to sort Toronto.

Urgh - Tried to predict the back to school dates based on previous years so have been working on 15th Aug - 5th Sept (land on 6th) on the basis the kids will probably be back at school 7th/8th Sept

School have emailed me tonight advising the new y7s (so DD) will be starting 6th Sept Ds isn't back until the 8th but it means we now have to fly home on 4th at the latest which of course means the price hikes around £500 total.

think I will wait and see if anything amazing pops up... I hate this price hunting game

How frustrating!

I’ve guessed at return date too, why can’t schools confirm these earlier!

Our LA says schools back 1/9, that day is always an inset, 2/9 would then be first day back, school has had year 7’s in on the first day alone since I was there in 1992. So that gave us start date of 5th.

It would be sod’s law if they choose to change it next year 😂

I know, they use to release the dates a lot earlier than this when DS was little as we always use to check when he was at primary but now none of the schools locally to us (primary or secondary) have released the 2022 dates yet which is very annoying as it is less than 12 months away and an awful lot of people do book their holidays 12+ months in advance so I can't understand it really! I emailed the school in July, I was told the council had set the earliest return date for our area at 5th Sept but that the governors would be deciding the dates "early autumn term" but as I still haven't heard I emailed them again yesterday (apologising for being a pushy parent ) and so shes given me the dates as said they will be released in the next few weeks. I looked right back to 2018 and usually new y7s have started on the Wednesday or the Thursday and all other years the day (some times 2 days!) after... this year they have bucked the trend (typical).

Looks like I am proper glitch hunting now

hope your school don't change them next year and you have guessed the right days

Taken the plunge, overall prices are 50% up on 2019 though alltogether (for less in Disney's case)

BA £2800
LHR to MIA direct 2nd Aug
1 day car hire - drop off in downtown Tampa
MIA to LHR direct 25th Aug

Then a Hertz SUV rental from Tampa on 3rd - drop off MIA on the 25th - £600

Won't stop looking though
