Travel insurance runs out mid-trip

If your current policy covers you for cancellation due to a family member’s deteriorating health (when not travelling with you) I would snap their hand off and renew immediately.

From what the call handler at the insurance said, if we renew with them as there will be no break in the policy cover then it doesn’t matter that we start the holiday before the policy renews - our cover should be as standard and we can claim etc as usual while we are out there because we’ve always been covered by them. I did clarify about 20 times with her as I was concerned!

If you do renew with your current insurer, for peace of mind, I would put in writing to them (either letter or email) that you're doing it on the basis of their advice that there will be no break in cover.

Thanks all for your advice. I think we will renew with them and as prugone suggests, get it in writing what they’ve said to us.
