ESTA with dual passports
My daughter has a British passport but also wants to apply for an Irish one. We’re going to Florida in August so I want to get ESTAs done soon and I was just wondering if there are any questions regarding holding two passports? If there are, I’ll hold off doing the ESTA until she’s got her Irish passport too. Thanks 😊

Just done my ESTA today, yes there is a question about whether you have a second passport.
I haven’t so can’t tell you anymore. |

I did husbands ESTA and he holds an Irish passport but is also a British citizen/resident. I’m sure there was a question about dual citizenship, but it was easy to answer.

Yes, there is a question about this in the ESTA app process.
However, with the huge increase in eligible Brits applying for Irish passports, the application period has taken a hammering. I believe if applying via an Irish grandparent, average time is 9-12 months: via a parent may be quicker; however, as it sounds like a 1st application, it will also take longer even if she already has all the documents/proof she needs & has already completed her enrolment on the Foreign Births Register (if applicable). I’d do the ESTA now; she won’t yet have an Irish passport so you can truthfully answer no. Edited at 10:55 PM. |

Thank you for your answers. Her dad was born in Belfast so she will be able to apply that way. Will it not matter if I answer ‘no’ to the question about other passports now, if she then manages to get her Irish one before we travel? I’ll be applying for the ESTA with her British passport.

The question is along the lines of ‘Do you hold another passport?’ It does not ask whether you are or plan to apply for another passport.
If at the time you apply for her ESTA, she does not yet actually have an Irish passport, the answer is no. You have answered the question truthfully. |

Exactly this. If the passport has not been issued yet, you answer no to holding any other citizenship . Once it has been issued, you answer yes and fill in the details it requests. Ive done both while getting my OH his Irish passport.
