BA Gatwick flight question
Hi all. I've been reading the posts recently about people having their BA flights changed from Heathrow to Gatwick and wondered if this might affect my flights this year? I have flights booked for late September from Gatwick to MCO and am holding out on booking parking and the pre-trip hotel in case of any airport changes.
I know no one has a crystal ball and that we can all expect changes this year (e.g. we've already been bumped to earlier flights since booking) but I just wanted to ask if you think its likely we'll be changed to Heathrow or is it purely that the Heathrow flights are being moved to Gatwick? |

As you say, I don’t think anyone are able to really advise anything here, as no one really knows. So far it seems that it is LHR flights being moved to LGW. But whether or not that will change... anything is possible in these uncertain times.
September is soon. If you are relatively confident of going at all, I’d advise you book your parking and airport hotel at a price you’re happy with, but make sure you do so with full flexibility and free cancellation. It’s usually a little extra, but in these times surely worth it; while you probably will able to change/cancel/refund even for something that is considered normally as non-refundable if travel isn’t possible, it’ll just make things easier if that becomes necessary.

I certainly would hope they are not going to move everyone booked from Gatwick to Heathrow and everyone from Heathrow to Gatwick. That would be a colossal waste of time! So no I would not be expecting changes if I were you.
We booked for September when there were both LHR and LGW options and I had a feeling they might change to just one of them, but I took a punt that they would change to solely Heathrow (so I was wrong). Regarding airport hotel, if you are concerned, book one at each airport on a fully cancellable basis. Edited at 10:55 AM. |

I've booked cancellable hotels and not parking at both. We're thinking of doing something different this year and getting the train there and arranging a taxi pick up for the way back

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.
I agree that it is worth getting hotels booked at a cancellable rate. I have a voucher for parking which was carried over from last year so I may have to see what the Ts & Cs are with that with regards to changing before I use it. Thanks again, helpful as always! |

I'm booked to fly from LGW with Ba in August. I have booked parking and hotel with the option of free cancellation or transferring the booking if necessary.

We fly mid-September from T5 to MCO. I've not even thought about being made to swap airports. It did make me look it up though on BA's website - admittedly these are for flight cancellations... which they are actually doing if they ask you to fly from another airport. One thing to note
- BA's terms say these are only if within 14 days of departure date: BA will consider reimbursing reasonable expenses for the following items:
Saying that, we got a Premier Inn at Heathrow for £45 - it would be £63 with Flexible cover. Worth the gamble to not pay the £18 as that pretty much covered breakfast for two. Most car park sites I've visited allow cancellation free of charge if outside of 48 hours of booked date. Heathrow Official Car Parks upto 2 hours before, during these times.
