Thank you for this thread. It has come just at the right time for us.

Next year for the 1st time in 25 years, we will not be tied to school holidays and we may not have children/ their friends in tow with us.

This thread has started me dreaming of what could be!

Cyprus for us and we’ve been 3 times, lovely beaches, people and food. We are off to Kefalonia soon, just hope we don’t get bored!

I lived there for 2 years and have returned a couple of times. Beautiful place.
Have a look at Northern Cyprus, really interesting and a consideration for a future year. It is unspoilt and has not suffered the development of the South. Costs once there , (you fly to Larnaca and have a taxi pick you up) are around half the costs of the South, whilst having the same culture and history.
It is generally agreed that the best beaches were always up North in any case.

I was there from 1980 to 1982 initially. I serviced Helicopters at Dhekelia with 16 FlightAAC.

Nissi had around 10 big hotels and 2 nightclubs. It was beautiful, across the way was Makronisos. Makronisis, (where the water sports is done now) had no Hotel within a mile of it. Our flight had a 54gallon drum/ BBQ that we would take to that beach and in summer, there wouldn’t be more than 10 other people on it, all local.

Fig Tree Bay had just the one Hotel (Fig tree bay hotel) and the new Protaris didn’t even exist.

Shame the way it has turned out. We now tend to look towards Pissouri where the beaches are poorer, but it has not been developed.

As you say, the food is delicious. It used to be very cheap and delicious with Cochinelli wine given away free with Meze’s. Now it is rather expensive. Happy, inebriated days!

Wife has said no more Florida for a couple of years so we're off to the Pyrenees at the end of September and then to Guadeloupe (French Caribbean) in November to see eldest daughter, next year will be a last minute bargain trip to some hot but will have to be in November again due to work restrictions.

This year is the first year i've not been to the US since 2014 and we're doing a week in Cyprus for my step-brother's wedding. Its certainly not my personal choice of destination but I am interested to see how I feel after a week all inclusive.
