I currently live in Cyprus. When you say autumn when exactly? I wouldn't come here after end October at an absolute push. The past two winters have been horrific. We have just had Januarys rain fall in a week.

As to where is nice. I will throw my 2 cents in
we went to Nissi beach and it was awful! the water was full of what I can only describe as slime... like sticky slime sea weed! it stuck to you everywhere it as all in the water no getting away from it. The beach is ram packed if you're not there by 10am you wont get a sunbed...which you have to pay for and there is about 2 feet between
them. You're squashed in like sardines. We went to the harbour and it was nice and there seemed to be a nice beach there to. If we ever go back to Napa thats where we will go. you can also do boat trips from there. The pirate one looks really good and has had great reviews from people i know that have been on it...but its one for if you've got kids.

Paphos is lovely. My tip would be to hire a car and explore the island. But make sure the hire car is an SUV type as some of the roads to get to places like Adonis baths are dirt tracks and you'll rip the bottom out of a small car.
Adonis baths are beautiful and worth a visit.

Fasouri water park is really good if you like them. You cant bring in any food or drink and they do check your bags.

Nicosia is worth a trip. Park here and take your passports and walk across to the North side. We have been to the North on visits and personally we prefer it up there. Its so so much cheaper and more modern. They have beautiful castles and beaches. Maybe consider a whole holiday there.

over and out from a very cold, wet, windy, thundey Cyprus!

Wow, thank you everyone for your helpful responses.

We are definitely not pub, club, party people and have ruled out Ayia Napa and Protaras. Also I have read that this side of the island closes down in the autumn so that also prompts me to cross them off the list.

I am going to look at Pissouri following CornishFrogboy’s recommendations.

We have now booked a fly drive and will fly into Larnaka. Are Larnaka or Limassol worth considering?

Anything at all, just contact me by PM or this thread... I would suggest that Greek Granny would also be rather useful.

Larnaca and Limassol are both ports that have laid sand out front, although Limassol also has good beaches round the corner towards Akrotiri. Neither are really in the league of Pissouri and co as they are cities.

Driving is very easy due to the fact that there are now decent roads from Larnaca Int are good, whether driving East or West. It is when you go inland that things become more agricultural.

Larnaca is preferable to Limmasol, my opinion!

Pissouri is beautiful but quite isolated, ok if you just want to relax but awkward for touring.

Hi,

I have narrowed the search to Pissouri. Has anyone got any recommendations of good hotels/ villas in this area?

Villas are a very personal thing. For that reason, I wouldn’t like to pick one even though we were more than happy with our 3 bedroom villa with space, parking and a nice pool out the back. We stayed in a villa on the road that leads in to the Restaurant/Sea area. There are several villas on this road that are advertised on Holidaylettings.co.uk. They are large and spacious. The area is quiet and uninteresting as can be seen on a Google Earth looksee. It is a nice, safe level walk to the several restaurants on the Beach Front area, most of which we have tried and all of which were very good, serving traditional, Greek food. Meze and Seafood were pretty much the staple dishes. From there, if you walk left and along the beach, you can go for miles, all the way to Bloodhound Rock. There is a deserted derelict chapel and then, a nice, isolated seafront restaurant. Inland are an awful lot of vines. It is real, rural Cyprus!
Old town Pissouri is a different game. It is old! It is on a hill and generally difficult to access without a car. It is of narrow, winding streets and very pretty. This again is proper Cyprus.
The choice of the above can only be yours.

As in my previous post, there is an awful lot to do that I listed. You may even be there for the Limassol wine festival, but not bucket and spade. You could not do all that I listed in a fortnight.

Whilst I generally just treat food as food (and you can see from my trippies that I barely even talk about food), it really is different her. Greek/Cypriot food, wine and beer and hospitality/friendliness can be absolutely heavenly, particularly once you get out of Ayia Napa, Fig Tree Bay, Protaras, Pathos and co. To visit any of thosec. Is like saying that you know lots about Spain whilst only having ever voted sited Benidorm.

You might also explore the option of visiting Northern (Turkish ) Cyprus. I have only ever flown along the buffer zone (In an Alouette II ).

Hope it helps.
