Vero Beach

We're currently looking at option for a week away next May half term.

The last two years we've had a week in Naples but it looks like the price has gone up a lot for next year so we're looking to other options.

I like the look of Disneys Vero Beach resort, I've read some trip reports that look lovely but is a week there too much? What else is there to do around there other than pool and beach?

I'm guessing the sea won't be as inviting as the warm gulf coast but is it suitable for a 7 year to snorkel?

Other option at the moment is a week at Universal as we'll have annual passes. Just can't make up my mind

Love to hear opinions on Vero Beach or other week long trip ideas to Florida.

There's no more than a degree or two difference in sea temps on the same latitude on the East or West coast, there seems to be a mistaken idea on here that the sea on the East coast is freezing and that the West coast is fabulous.

The sea on the East coast has brought bigger waves and an occasion we felt it better to avoid the sea for the children. I did go but was soon back at the beauty and serene calm of the pool at Disney's Vero Beach.
If you are planning for this year, just be aware there are some changes and refurbishments being done - by next May you should be in a brand spanking new hotel.

Having stayed there twice it is beautiful and a tranquil calm before, during or after the Orlando experience.
However we have only stayed a couple of nights at a time so unsure as to what it would be like for a week.
Like the sound of the universal AP's though

Vero is a nice resort and reminded me a little of OKW.

There are activities on for children and the pool area is nice and has a slide and small crazy golf area next to it.

The beach is a minutes walk along a boardwalk from the pool and is a nice beach which is not at all crowded. The waves come in and my children loved playing in the water and sand.

The drive down to Vero and the area the resort is in is very different to WDW. It's in "regular Florida" and you pass through normal residential areas to get there. There isn't a great deal to do around the resort, and I wouldn't personally stay there for any more than a few nights, but it's a welcome break from the parks.

We stayed at the Driftwood Resort in Vero Beach in May this year & it was amazing! Weather was so hot we had a tornado warning. We loved it so much we have just booked yesterday to go back next May for 2 weeks. The beach is beautiful, not quite as nice as the Gulf Coast but good enough!

Been staying at Vero Beach since 1996. IMO its a nice hotel in a fantastic location. My kids are 10 and 6 and they would kick off to some tune if I told them we were going to Florida and not staying at Vero for at least 5 days! They and us love it, very relaxing but still plenty to do if you'd like. Yes a car is essential, but there are lots of nice places to visit within 20 minutes drive. The beach is amazing and a natural habitat for turtles but the ocean is a bit more unpredictable than the mainly flat calm gulf. Last July we had 9 days there and the sea was flat calm everyday, but I've also been when the rollers are crashing in and there would be no way I'd let my kids anywhere near it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay there and could quite happily have stayed longer. The sea when we were there was very rough and I wouldn't let DS in there much to his extreme annoyance (he was 2 1/2 at the time lol) we would go back quite happily.

Would be really grateful of some ideas of places to visit at Vero Beach. when we were there this year we didnt do much, just basically relaxed so would love some suggestions of things to see.
