Absolutely not. She shouldn’t have travelled If the insurance cost was so high. There is a reason why it’s high. My husband has heart conditions so before we book any holiday we do an insurance quote. If we think it’d a sensible price v the cost of holiday we book said holiday and insurance and if not we re think our plans simple as

I wouldn’t donate but I do feel for them, it’s a horrible situation to be in regardless of if it was preventable.

I did wonder if some of the family might be on here as it sounds like they traveled to Florida multiple times.

I’m sure they just want her home now and gofund seems the only solution.

I dread to think what the hospital bill will be, how is that even dealt with if someone has no means of payment?

It’s a no from me too. It’s a heartbreaking story and must be incredibly stressful for the family but, with so many severe health issues, she knew the risk she was taking by travelling without insurance.

She went for 3 weeks, maybe a shorter trip would have given her some money towards the insurance. I feel they gambled and lost, and will now have to deal with the consequences of the actions.

DH and I are on a limited budget, luckily our insurance at this point with our routine, non severe health issues is affordable, but we still have to pay extra due to the health conditions. We’ve said we intend to enjoy our holidays while we can, as we can see that the price of insurance could be the reason why we have to forgo overseas travel in the future if we had any further medical conditions that increased the insurance too much for us. We’d be very upset if this happens but we’d never risk travelling without sufficient insurance

So… she’s been 22 times. Decides to go again with a lot more health issues but no insurance? Surely no one in their right mind would do this let alone take kids with her.

It’s a NO from me. Unbelievable why some folk think others should constantly pull them out a hole they created. I wouldn’t dream of begging like this.( mind you I wouldn’t go if I was in her predicament )

It's an interesting one. I wonder how it would work if she was an american citizen in the UK on holiday, no insurance. GP and emergency care is free, would this cover her?

Anyhow, no I won't be donating. She's been umpteen times before, so knows the score. No sympathy.

Would be a lot cheaper all round to go fund me the insurance prior to the trip

She should have had insurance, but we all make mistakes.

I can afford it and I've given.

I'm not virtue signalling. I think it's sometimes important to swim against the tide and let people who are thinking about it know.

And no. I'm not going to send you all my money.

😃

So her and her family had already had three weeks out there and still had five days left of their holiday when the mum collapsed. Why not just book a shorter holiday and use the money saved to buy the mum’s insurance?

Going on holiday without insurance is more than a mistake. It’s moronic.
