Honest there is nothing to worry about. You are under for 5 to 10 minutes max. You go under and next thing you know your awake and free from Afib. It feels great to have a normal rhythm.

I stayed out of Afib about 2 years after my last cardioversion so that was great. Please don’t worry, it is pain free
Thank you!

I'm looking forward to feeling normal. My heart rate was 160 bpm and it took them a couple of days to get it below 100. Outwardly I looked absolutely fine and relaxed but I couldn't even stand up without being really breathless.

It sounds as if you are highly symptomatic. That’s rough. You are bound to be apprehensive, but I’m sure the medical team will put your mind at rest. It is the briefest of GAs. You will pop off to sleep and wake up feeling fabulous. I hope it sticks for you. Some people only need the one and stay well thereafter.

Honestly I was very scared the first time. But I’d rather have cardioversion than dental work now. I hope you have a really short wait. X

I have cardioverted many patients over the years, it is done under sedation or anaesthetic and you should not remember any of it. Its a routine procedure in hospital (even in an emergency its not an uncommon procedure). If you have any concerns then speak to the team who will be doing it doing it, it sounds quite a frightening thought but its a common undertaking.
AF is the most uncommon "abnormal" heart rhythm we generally see and it can be managed quite effectively with either cardioversion, drugs or other cardiology procedures so please dont worry too much.

I’ve had Arythmia for nearly 10 years ,when it goes out of rhythm it’s vile ,and makes me feel very unwell. I’ve topped a heart rate of 200 which was just awful ,an ablation hasn’t worked ,but I do feel like it’s controlled with my meds .hope you are feeling better soon x

Absolutely agree. I used to run our Cardioversion service. Patients were totally out for the shock and had no recollection. They would wake within minutes and feel great. A few hours later and they were away home.

It does depend what sedation they will use but we used a quick acting one so patients would be back to normal really quickly.

I'm in Afib at the moment. Have been in it since 6th December. Was admitted to Nottingham City Hospital were they increased my Bisoprolol to 10mg per day and after 2 days my heart rate wasn't really coming down so they put me on Digoxin.
Came down to the 80's were they let me home. On the waiting list now for a Cardioversion.
Also having a Angiogram tomorrow to see if I need any further stents. Waiting list for that was 450 days. I've been on it for a year now and because of now waiting for a Cardioversion they agreed to put me through on a cancellation for the Angiogram. So tired with it all. I have Symptomatic Persistant Afib
Worst thing is we're goint to South America in 6/7 weeks for DH's 60th

I was diagnosed with AF in my Forties. It's surprisingly common. My Mum, Dad and Brother have it even though it's not supposed to be hereditary.

When I have an 'episode' I can usually get it back under control with medication. My Dad's had 4 cardioversions and 2 ablations over the years. On his last one, his heart rate corrected itself while he was waiting room!

Caffeine is my major trigger, that amd alcohol

Reading some of the experiences here I get it very lightly with episodes lasting less than 24 hours but I am still able to cycle to work with it ,
