HELP - Ryanair On The Cheap MAN to Lanzarote

Just booked basic with Ryanair end of March, for a cheeky weekend to attend a family celebration on Lanzarote.

Not flown with them for 15 years so a little rusty on low cost carriers these days

- how strict are they on bag size for hand luggage only and are you allowed an additional duty free bag on the the plane if purchasing airside in either direction ?

- not booked seats... how likely are we to be sat together if booked together (but not paid) ?

- can you still do OLCI at home and print boarding passes at home (I don't have a mobile and hubby doesn't have a smart phone) - heard stories that unless you book a seat you have to check in at the airport - is this true ?

- any tips for enduring the boring 4 hours on the flight ? Can I use a Chromebook (I've no phone remember ) ? I'm assuming no IFE and expensive food & drinks ? Unless anything has changed recently ?

Thanks in advance

1. Very strict with hand luggage size. Every flight we've been on there is always someone pulled over and charged £70 for their bag. Duty free is fine. Even against the rules we always put our hand luggage in the overhead locker.

2. No chance of seating together, it's a deliberate policy to split you up. You can change the seat after checking in, so if there a free seat next to one of you you only have to make and pay for one change.

3. Print at home is fine. At the other end drop into a cafe/hotel and ask them to print it out

4. The 4 hours goes pretty quickly (apart from when we went last December and sat on the tarmac for 4 hours due to snow, then a 4 hour flight. That was not pleasant, but glad we actually got there!

I can’t add much more that 2 point has posted .
We travel Ryanair regularly to the Canaries , we always pay for seats as no matter what time of year the planes are usually pretty full .
Take your own snacks , load up your devices and all is good .
We also pay extra for extra leg room seats as my husband is very tall , seats don’t recline which helps with short flights .
Last flight to the Canaries we changed to Tui paid for extra legroom and the space definitely seemed tighter than Ryanair.
I will reemphasise the strictness with bags they are very hot on it.

As previous posters but will add Ryanair are VERY strict regarding all luggage.

I've never printed a boarding card, just shown it on my app which a lot of passengers do.

Re OLCI that's maximum 24 hours before, unless you want to pay for seats, etc then you can check in earlier. Nope, the "stories" are not true, you can book minimum 2 hours, and up to 24 hours before at no extra cost.

Just reread, you don't have smart phones, in that case, yes, you're fine printing off your boarding cards.

With regards to duty free, I used them in November. On the return (Palma) they were telling people that the duty free had to fit in their hand luggage. I only had a bottle of gin which I squished in but other people were getting quite stressed about it.

We use Ryanair a lot! We have never been seated together (my kids are flying back home next week for a funeral and they are on the same flight but knows they won’t be seated together and really don’t care!)

Handluggage is very random! My DD flew back to uni last Friday. She had a rucksack and an extra bag that was full of medical supplies and was quite anxious that the second bag may be a little too big! One queue they were checking sizes and the other not- so she went in the one that wasn’t but was prepared to put things in her pockets if she needed to swish the bag down! It is take down to who is manning the desk!

Sorry to jump on the topic- I can see you are allowed to bring a car seat/booster seat for kids- can you bring this in the cabin or does it go in the hold? My son won't sit on it, but his car seat is also a backpack so we use it as his hand luggage. Just want to know if we should expect it to go in the hold or not!
First time on Ryanair so just unsure.

We have used Ryanair a few times, we bought the brand they recommend on their site for hand luggage cases and the backpack for personal items. Havent had any issues so far but we always pack under the weight limit just in case.
