The Tri-City Tour November 2021: Pre-Trippie
Hello readers!
For those who haven’t read any of our trippies before, we are Peter and Gill, veterans of DLP and WDW. Our most recent dose of Disney was a UK ‘staycation’ cruise on the Disney Magic in August. You can read about it here: All at Sea: DCL UK Staycation Aug 2021 - The Compendium And you can watch the videos here: All at Sea: The Box Set By way of background - we moved from London to Wales in January 2020 to look after my elderly parents, just two months before the world went a bit bonkers, and so with one thing and another, there haven’t been many adventures to write about lately. However, we are about to embark on what we’ve called our ‘tri-city tour’ since it involves 3 cities (well, sort of)...

Firstly we’re going from Llantwit Major to Preston to spend a few days with Peter’s family. Since we moved here, this is only the second time I have been able to go and see them, although Peter has been several times. Peter’s Mum is currently in hospital and his sister is mostly working, so this is really not so much a holiday as a chance to catch up and help out. But we have arranged to meet some friends while we’re in Preston.
Then we get a train to London where we’re staying for a couple of days. Besides catching up with London friends, we will of course be making up for the lack of theatre trips over the last 18 months! We’ve found ourselves priced out of the big shows such as Dear Evan Hansen, Frozen and Moulin Rouge, as there were no tickets under £100. Gone are the days when we would book 6 months in advance and get the cheap seats! But we have managed to get three bargains. On the Friday night we are seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new show Cinderella. Tickets were £22.30 and I used a £50 Theatre Token which I had as a reward from work, so essentially a free show. Then on the Saturday night we are seeing Prince of Egypt. Tickets were £24 each. Finally on the Sunday night we are seeing ‘Magic Goes Wrong’. We’ve seen several of the ‘Goes Wrong’ shows previously and they are great fun. There was a special offer for the Sunday and we have two seats in the Dress Circle for £29.50 each. When we are not at the theatre we hope to catch up with friends and on Sunday afternoon go to our church of 27 years - we do tune in to their services on YouTube but it’s not the same! On the Monday morning we’ll be taking an early taxi to Heathrow. We’re staying at the Premier Inn Ealing which is near our old stamping ground of Acton, and pretty convenient for Heathrow - it should take about 20 minutes in a taxi. We are catching the 7.15 am flight to Paris. Yes, that’s right. For the first time in over two years, we are about to leave the UK! And yes, this is the ‘sort-of’ part of the tri-city tour, as we aren’t going to the actual city of Paris but rather to our continental home from home, Disneyland Paris. After all the preparations we had to do for the staycation cruise, it wasn’t too difficult to prep for this visit. We have proof of vaccination saved on the Tousanticovid app which France uses. And we have our ‘sworn statements’ ready to fill in. We’ve ordered our Day 2 tests for when we get home too. It does feel odd that we don’t need to take a test before we fly. We might do a LFT while in London just for our own peace of mind. Never thought I would be planning to shove a cotton bud up my nose out of choice, but here we are. Once we arrive at Charles de Gaulle we have a transfer booked with RS Transports who will be taking us to the Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel (try getting that on a luggage tag). We bought annual passes on our last visit to DLP in September 2019, and because of the park closure periods, they are still valid until 22 November 2021. So we got 3 nights at the hotel for £700 which we think is a pretty good deal. Can’t wait to see it. We have meals booked at the Manhattan restaurant and the Downtown buffet in the hotel, as well as in the Steakhouse in the Village. We’re hoping DLP will be less busy than in recent weeks as it won’t be school holidays. The Christmas season will have started, with a special parade (though no fireworks yet) and the winter food festival huts will be back in the Studios. Looking forward to a mulled wine and some seasonal nibbles there. On the Thursday we will be taken back to the airport by RS Transports again for our flight back to Heathrow. As we won’t arrive until evening we have a night in the Premier Inn again before getting our train home to Llantwit Major on the Friday. That gives us a whole weekend for shopping, washing and trying to persuade Cookie the cat to forgive us for going away. She is being well looked after by our lovely cat sitter, but she will definitely be demanding lots of cuddles when we get home! See you soon for the first leg of the tri-city tour - Wales to Preston. >>Travel Day 1: Llantwit to Preston INDEX

Actually this pre-trippie is really post-trip! We went in November. Life has been so busy that I'm only now getting round to writing everything up.
Off to Preston again on Thursday though, maybe see you for a cuppa!
