We are booked with Alamo gold pluys with virgin and did online skip the counter. No mention of a toll pass fee. I vaguely remember they just deducted tolls from your card last time as they included toll pass. Can anyone confirm? don't want to join a possibly long queue at the desk to ask.

* Looks like I have found the answer. They charge them to your card automatically with a fee of $3.95 per day you use tolls up to a max of $30 per rental.

Sunpass is enabled automatically. No need to sign up to anything nor decline anything and no gizmo in the car to worry about Just drive through the toll without stopping.

Charges will hit your CC in due course but maybe in two transactions as it depends on when the highways authorities invoice Alamo. Don't go wthin a mile of any terminal desk.

Assume that as you've posted into this thread you're into MIA?

Having driven both the 27 and Turnpike, I concur with DonnaD that the Turnpike is my preferred route. However, from Miami to Orlando I use I-95 up to Jupiter and then take the Turnpike up to Orlando from there.

I actually went A1A along the coast from Miami Beach to Hollywood as we were starting from the Port and I hadn't been that way for 20 years. Far more interesting than 27 and probably added about the same amount of time.

I had a look at my Sunpass account. $9.53 in tolls from Hollywood to the 417 junction near Orlando Airport. Obviously it is my own car and Sunpass account so no rental car daily fees for me. The tolls are cheaper than I expected.

I can also recommend the service plazas on the Turnpike. We stopped at 2 and had no complaints. On the 27 we ended up at an IHOP for dinner and a truck stop for a break.

I have used the Turnpike a number of times and find it no different from using the M3, M4 or any other UK motorway with the exception of the undertaking. It have always had a straight through run except during rush hour near Miami which is to be expected. Never seen one single crash ever but different people can have different experiences.
