Hi, we have booked 3 weeks in July, flying into LAX. My god car hire is expensive! We need a 7 seater, any one any tips where to look?Hoping the prices come down!

Depending on what your plans are, you may not need a car the whole time.

San Francisco is preferable without one, and there are many hotels walking distance to Disneyland with dining options also walking distance.

For example we booked our car when we left San Francisco and dropped it off when we got to Anaheim, which saved us eight days rental (and parking fees).

Car hire is really pricey at the moment

Uscarhire has a code that helps, the code is 216.

I’ve used it for next month, 3 weeks Standard SUV £1084 from Dollar..

Cheapest place I’ve found is hertz booked through kayak it was around £700 ..but you need too collect from the Marriott hotel which isn’t too far from the airport , but you’d need to make your own way there and they close at 6pm which just wouldn’t work for us .

I went with Andy at dfch and used a tip I’d seen on here - picking up the car from the Hilton Hotel at LAX and dropping it back at the airport, saved us a fortune.

Did you make direct contact or simply ask DFCH for an online quote?

I needed a Mustang Convertible from SFO to Tucson Int over a 9 day period in Oct and the website was just in the ballpark with others .
We don’t need it in SFO and we don’t need it for our last 3 days in San Diego, thus minimising the number of days needed as well as saving plenty on car parking.

Direct contact with Andy by phone got me £885 and £270 of that was a fixed fee for dropping in a different location/state to be paid on collection.

Thanks for this.

Just used code 216 and saved around £400 on a weeks hire from Dollar.

Many thanks for this thread. I have emailed Andy and also got a quote from US car hire for our Hawaii trip. I knew there would be some Dibbers with some advice!
