Biltmore Estate

We are staying in Asheville for a couple of days and wondered if Biltmore was worth a visit ?
Thank you

Definitely. We loved it so much that we have gone twice and if we are ever in that neck of the woods again I would go back.

It is a great day out. The self guide tour of the house is great and so are the gardens. Lots of little humming birds flying around the flowers. The stable courtyard has been turned into a place to sit and eat with a choice of eateries. There are a few quite large shops with unusual gift choices. It is a popular venue and busy but the audio tour transports you into another world and everyone just wonders around in their own bubble.

I am not really a great lover of stately homes as they can be quite stuffy and cold but I even bought the book for further information and a Biltmore Christmas bauble. I have never done that before - don’t even have a Disney bauble! We spent hours there both visits (around 4 years apart) and didn’t want to leave.

Completely agree with everything Pumpkin Pie has said. The house is stunning and there is a lot to do on the estate. We did a second day so we could do it justice, and I’d go back again too!

Are you going to Chimney rock where last of the mohicans was filmed and Lake Lure - Dirty Dancing. We rented a little cottage on the edge of some woods and saw fire flies. My DD who was about 4/5 at the time thought they were tinkerbells

Oh I remember Chimney Rock. It was a boiling hot day and I struggled to climb the hundreds of steps to the top but I did it and it was worth it for the view.

Also in the Asheville area is a little town called Hendersonville. It has a lovely Main Street with lots of individual little shops and cafes. Worth a visit if you like small town America.

Don’t know if you have been before but while in Atlanta I can recommend a visit to the old historic Fox Theatre. The tour takes you behind the scenes with all sorts of stories including resident ghosts.
