If nothing else, they will want you to have a receipt covering everything you have bought so that if there is an issue, you have your proof of purchase to assist with resolving that.
An inconvenience, certainly, but an understandable one I think. |

Unfortunately a rescan is a rescan, which can be a real pain. I would have expected the shopping to go through a spare till and have never heard of an estimated total being paid, bizarre.
I use a hand scanner and expect a rescan at some point, you accept this when signing up. I've seen adults completely flip out on being told their shopping needs a rescan, extremely rude to Staff and stomping off. I feel really sorry for the Staff who have to deal with the aftermath The technology these days don't make life easier, afraid we just have to go with the flow. On a positive note I got a free bottle of squash at Waitrose recently for my trouble as the offer had expired (2 for £3) but ticket still up. The lady couldn't get it removed from bill so scanned the 1 and gave me the other. |

It would be an irritation but I wouldn't have had a tantrum over it.

 my son works at Asda too, the staff were not helpful at all and he just said no he won’t re scan because he hasn’t got time for that and put everything in the trolly and left. I’m sure they aren’t traumatised by it

It’s a tough one Sandra, I think I would have at least asked them if they could get someone to come and help unpack re-scan and repack . I would’t have been happy but things break sometimes, and I’d feel sorry the cashier !
If they’d have helped repack etc, I may have left them to it and sat eating a family pack of biscuits.
