on a positive we had the ford explorer which is a heck of an SUV! would love one here.
had it for 7 days for £365 which was pretty cheap I think. With the £171 charge makes it 530 ish so still not too bad

If there ever was a diesel hire car in the US it would have to have labels plastered all over it. They would never send one out unlabeled as the very first renter would 100% put petrol in it.

whats annoyed me though is there was just over half a tank of fuel so not only have they charged me over double per gallon they have charged for a full tank!
Certainly learnt my lesson though!
Please give Andy time to chase this up for you - he is inundated with requests for quotes as his details have been quoted on a few Florida Forums on Facebook.

We had a huge problem with a rental booked through Andy last year and it was sorted eventually but he was dependant on receiving replies to his emails to the car rental company so it all takes time. Hope it works out for you.

Absolutely, 100% recommend Andy, but he can't be responsible for what you've done and agreed to pay, when you signed for the car.

never said he was responsible and I would use him again no problem.

My issue is being ripped off by Avis.

But you haven't been ripped off by AVIS. You've been charged exactly as they would charge any other customer who didn't return the car with a full tank. It will all be in the Ts&Cs that you agreed to when picking up the car and there would have been a small sign indicating the price per gallon charged if they have to fill the tank.

Like all rental companies if you take a car back and they have to put fuel in you’re not just paying for the fuel you’ll also be paying for all the related costs from admin to the time taken by an employee to refuel it on top of the higher gas price than at a gas station.

So sorry to hear about this, it’s so annoying when things like this happen. Have you googled how much the tank holds? So you know how much they should have charged you? We’ve been to Florida lots of times and we still have the “is it petrol or diesel” conversation at the pumps! Maybe it’s because we drive a diesel at home. Thanks for sharing, it appears that both you and I have learned that it will always be petrol in Florida, I’m so sorry you had to learn this way though.
