Just read through day 5 (trip report looks good, I'll read through the rest tonight). That's awful, holding so much against your cards! how can they think that's acceptable

I think we will just pay for everything instead of leaving card details but Do they still put a hold on even if you don’t spend anything but just leave the card details ?

Think they put $100 straight away and then more as you start to spend. The reception just kept saying they'd released any hold they had but my card and calculations said otherwise :/ and then it dropped off via Disney 1 week later. If they made me leave card details again, I would just use our basic bank card details with them that has hardly anything in it as we never use it, it also has no overdraft on it

$300 hold on card...day one

Day three €250 spent go to desk pay off account
BACK to $300 hold on card

Providing I clear the account every few days there’s no issue

No, $100 hold, then depending how much you spend they put a hold on more, plus take what you've spent. All I know is a few days before we checked out we went to remove our card and clear everything. But there was about $300 (give or take a few dollars) still being held on my card and it wasn't released for us to spend until 1 week later. They said they had released anything they had held, but it took a week for the funds to clear as available.

Am I correct in thinking I can decline to have a card attached to my account & just not have charging to room privileges?

We're taking minimal spends & I'd rather just pay as we go on our fairfx or with cash. Can't be bother messing around with amounts being held or having to pay off balance every couple of days.

Yes, we removed our card a few days before we checked out and paid for restaurant tips etc using our revolut card, we just scanned band for dining credits only.

I’m being very dense here

If my CC has a limit of £500

Day one I check in $100 held against card leaving me a balance for argument sake of $400

If I go over the $100 limit before five days they take that amount from my card and out another hold on the card, meaning I incur charges

If I don’t go over that amount , say $90, I can go to reception and pay off th $90 before the five days, debt cleared and another $100 put on hold

We have always taken cash and paid off our account as we go along. Every four five days

I’m not sure to be honest - that might work. The link posted above might explain more. I just didn’t like not knowing what was the real balance on my card, the hold of $300 was spread over 2 holds $145 and $155 (give or take a few dollars). My preference next time would be to not register a card at all.

I think I’ll just use cash pain really and makes a mockery of the magic band and not carrying cash. Ok for Americans as they don’t incur the charges
