Swapping credits on the qsdp

I understand you can swap a Qs meal for 3 snack credits in all the one transaction.
How does it work, supposing I wanted to order one qs meal and get 3 snacks but by swapping for one of our qs meals, Do we say before ordering? as if we don't it would come from our 3 snack allowances, does that make sense?
Also would it be 3 items from the snack list, any items? Thanks.

I'd like to know how this works too - I wonder if you can exchange QS meal for 3 snacks in all Disney/Disney Springs restaurants that sell snack cr items or just certain ones.

We only did it at the resort, there you just get what you want from the counters then tell the cashier what credits you want to use. If it's at a park then you would need to tell them when you order as you pay when you order.

Not sure all of them allow it, I know flame tree bbq wouldn't let us swap a dessert for a side.

Thanks for that, just also wondering if say it was a counter service i.e. you ask for items instead of go and getting your own .
