Mobile A few questions about taking food with us

Due to a special dietary requirement, we are planning on taking pre packaged snacks with us for both the plane journey and for the first day or 2.

Also have to take some supplements such as vit D tablets and a few others.

Can anyone advise on whether the following items are ok to take into the US?

Packets of crisps , specifically plantain chips.
Vitamins and supplements
Herbal teas

I'm not sure about the plantain chips & tea as you may have to declare them due to their nature.

I'd take the vitamins in your hand luggage as my 5HTP and Omeprazole was in my hold luggage which in turn was searched by US customs.

Someone may correct me on this though!

Any food must be declared. We usually take teabags and variety pack cereal with us.

Sorry don’t know anything about Plantain chips but ordinary crisps should be declared as they are still a snack food.

All the items you’ve listed should be fine to take through customs but just declare them. Make sure you take medication with you in your cabin luggage in case anything goes missing.

With the plantain, if it's treated to the point of being made bio safe, then you should be fine.
They care about fresh food that potentially houses bugs that could damage their ecology.

Hopefully this official web site will help?

We haven't had the customs forms given for maybe the last three trips but the Immigration Officer has always asked if we have food.
