English or French language?
Hi all, never been to DLP before (have been to WDW and Disneyland California but many years ago).
Could anyone tell me what language the shows, ride commentary, cast members etc is in? I’m guessing predominantly French but is there enough in English to still enjoy it? Sorry if this seems an obvious answer. |

Pretty much everything is in both. At shows like Mickey and the Magician, one character will say something in English and another answer them in French, so everyone can get the idea.
Announcements are in about six languages!

You certainly don't need to be able to speak French to enjoy DLP, cast members will all speak English and most rides/shows are in both languages as Gill H says.
Having said that using basic French when speaking with CM goes along way! Even if it is just a Bonjour and Merci - it is appreciated. If you are getting autographs at meet and greets then make sure the character knows you speak English so they know what language to sign in . Edited at 02:32 PM. |

Yes, I always say if you have been to school in the last 40 years, you know all the French you need for DLP - basically ‘Bonjour’, ‘Merci’ and a big smile!

Majority is in both English & French. The only place where we've ever had a problem is on Star Tours where it seems to alternate but we always seem to end up in the french version!

Definitely with letting them know you are English because I still laugh about it now when my eldest, 5 at the time, met chip and dale and shouted confusingly "who on earth is tic and tac?" The book was quickly taken off her and resigned chip and dale. Goofy must've overheard and signed his goofy instead of dingo like he did in another person's book.
We are off to WDW very shortly and have said we are going to be the confused ones because we are going to hear English a lot more and on rides we normally hear french. Think our brains will hurt haha |

Does anyone else feel like it sounds like they are taking the ≈≈≈≈ or sound sarcastic when saying bonjour etc?

What's nice is that things tend to be either multi lingual (increasingly often in French and English... see Philharmagique and Phantom Manor), have specific translations (maps etc), or even try to avoid specific languages at all, instead relying on visual storytelling. There's a few things that are just in English, just in French etc, but it doesn't feel exclusionary.
