Mobile False accusation of damage to Tv in hotel room

So not a good start to holiday. After landing at MCO this afternoon, switched phone on and received an email from hotel we stayed in last night at airport telling me they were charging £250 for a Damaged TV along with Pictures.
We categorically did not do this damage. We treat hotel rooms with respect like we would our own home. As you can imagine we are upset about this and it has put a dampener to the start of our holiday. Anyone got any suggestions how to approach this?

Did you pay for the room by credit card? Maybe refer the matter to the CC company?

As Rob says
We now no matter where take pictures of fixtures and fittings when we arrive and leave
And we encourage our guests to do so just in case house keeping miss
Something and it can happen especially on busy turn around days

It is clear that you are not responsible for the damage or you wouldn't bother to ask advice on here. I would, at least initially, assume that the hotel has made an inocent mistake in identifying you as the persons responsible and respond in that vein, explaining that you are sure that everything was OK when you left the hotel and ask them to check if it really was your room and they are sure no one else had access. At the same time I would make it clear that you are upset by the accusation and hope they identify the real persons responsible as soon as possible to put your mind at rest.

Ask them for a picture of the TV in the room before you arrived to prove the damage was done during your stay.
Can you say which hotel?

What sort of damage was there to the TV? Would it have been clear when you where there if the TV looked that way? I would question that they have the right room.

That wont wash I'm afraid, the hotel will take the position that by not reporting pre-existing damage during the stay it simply wasnt there to start with
