Turkey dinner first had apparently by Henry xiii but popularised by Edward Xii 1900s.
Before this it would mostly have been goose, duck , hogs head or beef for those who could afford it

We are just 2 and although we like turkey we only like it once. so we are hoping to buy roast turkey off the bone form Morrisons Deli counter tomorrow and make a Xmas dinner form that. If they haven't got Turkey we will have beef, if they haven't got beef we will have Pork and if they haven't got pork we will have chicken breasts from the freezer... it's just food after all so not a big deal in the scheme of thinks

Until a thread on here about an hour ago, we'd planned to have frozen party food with roast potatoes and sprouts in copious quantities to provide the kids favourite leftovers. I've since decided to cook a side of salmon and make a smoked salmon terrine to make sure the fridge has a good stock of leftovers. I'll probably need to decide today whether to defrost one of the 7kg gammons in the freezer, but it seems a tad excessive just for the four of us ...
