Possibly many people booking a UK break are not aware of what a “normal” price is. We haven’t booked UK accommodation for years so didn’t know what prices to expect.
A quick check on Airbnb I can find, for a school holiday week, in Cornwall a 2 bed apartment for £460 and a beautiful villa for £23010 (seriously !) I managed my expectations and realised I wasn’t going to get what I wanted for what I was willing to pay. Accommodation is there and it is understandable that owners will try to recoup some losses. What I do find unfair is people making multiple free cancellation bookings which they will cancel if something better comes along leaving owners with no booking at all. |

Not sure why people don’t go the travelogue pr premier inn..
We got 4 nights in premier inn Cornwall with breakfast for £400 family room in august. Will add a stay on Warwick castle area probably another £100 so 5 nights with breakfast £500 for family rooms. Could of been less but opted for fully flexible just in case pay on arrival. |

I have a 3 bedroom cottage in Northumberland in may (not during school hols ) it’s £400 for a week but I used tesco vouchers on cottages . Com and had £100 discount voucher
I’m happy with that it’s 20 mins from a beautiful coast I usually prefer to spend every penny on Greece or Portugal but it will be lovely to see a different 4 walls and I feel a lot safer this year as we have now both had our first vaccine and survived Covid at Xmas |

I looked at the premier inn, as we’ve previously got good deals there. But not now! A week in June (3 rooms, as we are 6 adults) the cheapest refundable rate is Heston at £2400! Penzance is £3900! Which is totally ridiculous, hence why we are now looking at cottages etc. I haven’t looked at travelodges though, so will investigate now.

We have booked a house in Penryn with Airbnb. It has free cancellation so if something happens and we can’t go we can cancel up to 5 days before. I have never used Airbnb before but they seem to have good reviews for how they have treated customers through the pandemic.

We stay in Premier Inns for one and two night stays but I wouldn’t for a full weeks holiday. With 4 adults we would spend anything we saved on accommodation on eating out 3 times a day. We would need also 2 rooms, I’d have to share with daughter and husband with son. Maybe when son and daughter were younger but not now.
