Government £50 fix your bike scheme
Wasn’t sure if anyone had noticed the fix your bike scheme is available again. Daughter has taken her bike down for a silver level service at Halfords which would have cost £50. Received a free £10 voucher too.
We missed them last time so glad I spotted it yesterday. |

My son finally got a voucher on the third time of applying. They use bikes every day when uncovid, even the kids bike to school and preschool went in a trailer to nursey so it's good to get it.

I tried to get one last year was impossible but now do my own so no use to me now.
I switched to doing entirely my own (for years I've done a lot) when I tried to get an appointment last year and he told me 3 months wait- my electric bike’s rear mech had broken so it was unrideable . I therefore bought and fitted a SRAM Eagle whole groupset thinking I’d upgrade the lot, saving myself about £100 on what they were quoting me. I did have to spend money on more tools though. This stuff isn’t rocket science. I’ve changed wheels, forks, fitted new groupsets, bottom brackets, cables, made all my bikes tubeless, fitted new cassettes, chains. Almost everything. YouTube is great it will teach you everything, but you need the right tools, that’s the key. I’ve built up slowly. I had a hell of a job removing a stripped crank bolt last year but bought some bolt extractors for example, may never use them again but can now extract any stripped bolt. These are all my tools now. Great not to have to rely on a bike shop which I find often to have a lack of attention to detail. If you have the inclination I would recommend trying to learn some of it yourself.

Husband does usually do all the repairs on our bikes. This was one less job to have to do on a weekend !
