Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings announced on Monday that the county is working with health officials on creating a plan that would relax mask mandates and social distancing requirements.

Demings said the phased approach will be based on differences in indoor and outdoor locations and added that a decision to relax guidelines would be based on vaccinates rates, infection rates, and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Demings did not provide any details about his plan, but said there will be more specifics released soon.

Demings had previously said the county would look into dropping the mask mandate when vaccination rates surpassed 50%.

Demings said more than 50% of Orange County residents over the age of 40 have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

The mayor also said he thinks a complete lift of the mask mandate in Orange County is still months away.
