Updated Snow White ride "backlash" (Disneyland)
The updated Snow White ride opened along with Disneyland re-opening, with a new finale showing Prince Charming waking Snow White with "true love's kiss".
One article from SFGate complains that Snow White could not give her consent, therefore it's wrong. From the article: A kiss he gives to her without her consent, while she's asleep, which cannot possibly be true love if only one person knows it's happening. Haven't we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn't been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK? It's hard to understand why the Disneyland of 2021 would choose to add a scene with such old fashioned ideas of what a man is allowed to do to a woman, especially given the company's current emphasis on removing problematic scenes from rides like Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain. Why not re-imagine an ending in keeping with the spirit of the movie and Snow White's place in the Disney canon, but that avoids this problem? Still, with the twinkling lights all around and the gorgeous special effects, that final scene is beautifully executed — as long as you're watching it as a fairy tale, not a life lesson. Link: sfgate/disneyland/ar...h-16144353.php Now, that was just ONE article. Google "Snow White" and you'll find many articles jumping on the bandwagon like it was a massive backlash. Ridiculous! |

They met at the beginning of the film and fell in love (OK, after 20 seconds of hearing him sing, but this is a fairytale!)
She sings about him to the dwarves too. I think we can assume she would have given consent! Don’t go reading the original version of Sleeping Beauty, for goodness’ sake. That’s a lot worse! I do see the issue with teaching kids about consent, but you can do that at the same time as you teach them not to take apples from old ladies, never agree to do all the housework of 7 grown adults, and don’t let woodland creatures wash your dishes unless you have some antibac ready afterwards!

Oh dear if you really feel like that you shouldn’t be going to Disney.
It’s fairytales and the time these tales were written was a long time ago. Try telling a bride she can’t be a princess on her wedding day as that’s what many dream about . I would be more concern with the dangers of grooming on the internet. You do wonder how far this will go with everything that has been published or filmed before now. Most of us have grown up with Disney and most people are respectful of other people and don’t need to be told how to behave .. There will always be those that will cross the line and nothing to do with anything Disney has portrayed in the past., |

And some people don't see the issue with the 'woke' generation.
These people just don't know where to draw the line, it's all about them. |

Can I ask, if I drop down in the street, how are you going to do CPR ?
I haven’t given my consent, are you going to let me die ? Absolutely ridiculous article, leave our fairy tales alone |

This riled me when I read it,why the need to try change a fairytale for goodness sake? It's maybe just one person's take on it,but reading some online comments, plenty agree with it. Absolute madness.

I'm not a person who swears much but I'm sure I can give it a go.
I'm sick of people being offended by everything. They need to get a life , leave things alone, learn from the past, and accept things and people for what they are. |

I'm sick of no woodland creatures doing my housework however much I sing and feed the little buggers.
