I wouldn't ignore all of the challenger banks, Starling certainly seem to be doing things well, and Monzo reasonably well as well.

You also have the options of much more reputable pre-pay cards as well with Caxton and FairFX.

As you say, you then have the Credit card options you mention.

All are suitable for different circumstances. I would just avoid suppliers with suspect working practices, poor customer service and an oppressive culture on their workforce. Personally, my ethics do not allow me to support these types of companies.

As way of an update - after submitting a formal complaint to Revolut the money was returned to my account (no email or message explaining it was being returned). I have now withdrawn this money and closed the account.

Relieved and much wiser!
