What Phil ( or anyone for that matter , gay or straight) does in the "bedroom " has nothing to do with anyone but him and his partner.
I've never gone up to anyone and said hi I'm Jen and I'm straight. You shouldn't have to explain what you are , I know lots of gay people, they are all nice people and that's what matters,

I think it’d shake your confidence in a different way .
It has to be the ultimate rejection sexually (or rather feel that way at the time ... it obviously isn’t)

I got the impression that his wife has known for quite some time - so maybe they decided as a couple to stay together and wait until their daughters were old enough to be able to deal with his coming out? He has always seemed to have a great relationship with his wife, so it could be that she has been happy to continue their marriage as friends. At the end of the day, it’s nobody else’s business how they choose to live and when he decided to come out. If he feels that he hid it to protect his daughters from the media spotlight at too young an age then that’s his prerogative! Good luck to them all.

Being gay doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with “what you do in the bedroom “ ! He came out as he believed the time was right for him to do so and being authentic is better for his mental health ! According to his interview he ain’t having a man in the bedroom - being gay/straight etc and sex are not mutually inclusive believe me

I seem to remember in the 80s there was a group who 'forced' other gay people to 'come out', at the time I thought it was terrible and that people should feel comfortable about doing it when they are ready. Luckily today it is no big deal but in the 80s there were a lot of people who wouldn't accept it. My brother is gay and despite being 6'4" tall and very broad he would get all kinds of threats just for who he is, as Philip Schofield is older than him I can really understand why he lived a lie for so long. Well done Phil!

What a lovely warm post

For work reasons I had to hide my sexuality and play straight for years else I would have been sacked then I came out and for a few years my line manager was interviewed about my “perversion “ - at that time I remember the group you mention publicly outing people (predominantly gay men) and it has never sat easy with me - coming out is a personal thing and no one should feel they “have too” until the time is right . One of my closest friend husband outed a famous actor back in the day and we often discuss why ? When I came out to sister she was relieved as has known I was gay before I did - I felt liberated then went forward and help set up and subsequently chair a growing LGBT focus group (and some of you know via my FB page ) - times have changed and your brother is so lucky to have such a strong supportive sister as you are . I live in central London and get verbally abused very often - having support is invaluable x

Does anyone really care if he's gay?
Personally I can't stand him, what annoys me is during his time on This Morning he has judged people far too easily and been down right rude at times. His wife must have known for sometime either that or he is a good liar.

I am so sorry that you get this verbal abuse why is this world so slow in accepting each other for who they are? It is sad however I tell myself there are less 'knuckle heads' than there once were and maybe one day differences will be celebrated by all.

I’m sure his wife and family have known for a long time. But coming out in public is a huge deal, especially for someone so established in the public eye.

I’m pleased he’s come out, I’m pleased he no longer feels he has to hide.
