One of my sons lives in a tenement (in Edinburgh). It has large rooms, high ceilings with beautiful cornices and ceiling roses. The communal stairway has the original tiles on it. His building dates back to the 1890s and will still be standing long after any modern new build. She really doesn’t know what she is talking about.

Exactly, she really doesn't know what she is talking about. The comment was probably made without thought and a touch of ignorance. I really don't like that programme, I've not watched it for years but I always felt that too many inappropriate comments were made.

I’m the same - I gave up on it years ago.

Me too I used to like it when it first started but it seems to have got very shouty over the years.

I used to love watching it when it first started when there were interesting panelists and lots of humour. It now seems to involve lots of bitchiness and them sniping at each other all the time.

I haven’t watched Loose Women for years, the women just shouted over each other all the time, and are so judgemental and argumentative.

Definitely, but then no matter what place she mentioned people are likely to take offence, it's the way things are now, I think the point she made was valid but was lost purely because of her lack of diplomacy, think before you speak springs to mind but sometimes you blurt something out without realising it's going to cause offence.

That's about right. I was overthinking and she was underthinking! Not helped by the fact I'm really not a fan.

Maybe she's read about the "Glasgow Effect":

en.wikipedia/wiki/Glasgow_effect

"The Glasgow effect refers to the low life expectancy and poor health of residents of Glasgow, Scotland, compared to the rest of the United Kingdom and Europe" ... "Research led by David Walsh of the Glasgow Centre for Population Health in 2010 concluded that the deprivation profiles of Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester are almost identical, but premature deaths in Glasgow are over 30 percent higher, and all deaths around 15 percent higher, across almost the entire population".

Some have suggested that it's due to increased stress and reduced mental health in the area compared to the rest of the country (here). In terms of mental ill-health, Glasgow could be said to have one of the lowest statuses in the UK. So one could argue she had a point choosing it as an example on the lower end of the spectrum.
