Mmm, I think it's right. The same as the Mother decides if she wants the Father included on the child's Birth Cert. She can opt to leave it blank should she so wish even if it's obvious who the Father is.

im not so sure... we hear so many stories of absent fathers not contributing etc etc.. what if the father wants to be involved?

one of my wifes friends godson & his girlfriend split up when she was @5 months pregnant, she moved in with someone else, now he has only seen his daughter once briefly, he is devastated by it all.. but seemingly a whole bunch of nothing he can do

She kept trying to disappear to get a cup of tea, and it wound me up because I wanted one but felt so sick coz of the gas & air so couldn’t 😂

And if not married the father has to be present for his name to be included I think.

My husband wanted to be there and I would have been devastated if he didn’t. Both of my labours have been quite quick and I would have been alone if he wasn’t there, as the midwives were busy, just popping in to check occasionally. One even telling me I wasn’t in labour, until I insisted she examine me, only to be told I was ready to push! Speedy dash to delivery followed. It’s my opinion that a man should step up, after all he was half of the people who made the baby and the mum can’t opt out of the birth, so why should he? It’s also a natural and normal process, I just don’t understand why any man wouldn’t want to support his partner while she was in pain and possibly frightened. My motto is always each to their own, but in this case, for me that doesn’t apply,

My Husband was there for the birth of our two, emergency section. My Mum also turned up uninvited and ended up pacing outside the room trying to sneak in. Caused quite a few issues and resentment afterwards as she tried to tell us our version of the birth was wrong (we were just keeping some of the more traumatic parts to ourselves).

It’s a real issue, so many good, decent dads out there being denied contact with their children whose mothers use them as pawns to spite their fathers. What they can’t see is that they are also depriving their children of a relationship with their father and the joy that could bring. The law in this field is antiquated and really should be reformed
