If this big 'un had a message for the gator swallowing great blue heron, would it be 'bring it on' perhaps!

The much smaller, and colourful, green heron, who likely could've been lunch for the juvenile gator!

Mother yellow crested night heron watching over her brood.

There's 4 chicks in this nest. Lot of mouths for mother to feed.

Reminds me of Rod Hull 🙂

Amazing photos - should add a couple to the pictures thread in case people have missed these. There are some budding twitchers on that thread I think who would love these.

Islanders at Pineland Marina (Bokeelia) are trying to catch Old Blue here, apparently he's had fishing line/debris wrapped around his lower beak for nigh on a week, it appears he can still eat. If they can pin him down somebody courageous (wouldn't get me near that beak!) will either remove the debris and release or CROW at Sanibel will take him.

Many years ago a Cape Coral gardener would, rather stupidly, jump in the canal when he'd finished on a Friday... he doesn't do it now, not since a gator got him, police had to shoot the gator to retrieve what remains they could.

Snakes don't phase me Helen, there's a black racer that lives under the home in Bokeelia. There's also venomous snakes, sadly one was run over not far from the home. Rattlesnakes are commonplace on the island but people leave them alone and they tend to stay away from people.

One of the biggest island issues is coyote's, we've seen them in daylight running across the road, at night they run thro our area making a lot of noise. They've been known to 'stalk' islanders walking their dogs on the lead during the day. Unfortunately some pet owners are nonchalant and let their pets run free, oft they become coyote food.
