Toilet Help

So mum and dad have just moved into a bungalow on a warden controlled estate.

The management company will be completely refurbing kitchen and bathroom in September.

So in the meantime we’re just helping them clean it up a bit.

All going well until we got to the toilet. The best way I can describe the inside of the toilet, just below the water line, is heavily stained🤢
Now I’ve tried everything, toilet brush, scouring pad, bleach, Cif and while it’s improved it still doesn’t look pleasant. Any magic ideas as to how to clean this. Reluctant to buy a new toilet that’ll just be in for a month or so.

Any ideas greatly appreciated

Ours was like this when we bought our house... Next house we buy I'll remember to lift the loo seat lol, it took a while but cola is good as well as denture cleaning tablets, ours actually eventually peeled off in chunks, I don't want to think what the chunks were but marigolds were worn

I have seen this when we have been doing refurbs on old houses.

It's very rare for the porcelain to be so damaged that staining cannot be removed.

Our industrial cleaners we utilised to clean the houses would tie up the ballcock in the toilet tank and flush it. That way no water could refill the pan.
Then literally soak it in neat bleach overnight. Worth a shot.

Have you tried limescale remover? I wonder if it could be scale under the water that is stained as many cleaners don’t remove scale.

I’d try putting something like near limelite in for 5 minutes and see if that helps.

Another thing to try is antacid tablets

We should run a thread about things people have found when moving in to a new house!

I posted last week about how we would move beds to give more room whilst doing renovations and finding 'toys'

Also ripping ceilings down and what suddenly appears.

I bet there are some hilarious stories out there.

White vinegar is very good for that, you can either put it in a spray bottle and soak the area and leave for as long as possible, or use an old unwanted tea towel soaked in the vinegar and as wet as possible and tuck under the lip of the toilet bowl and leave to soak, depending how bad it is (if there is a lot of lime scale) you will also have to scour it but white vinegar works well.

I’m guessing it’s limescale? Our toilet is like that, we live in a hard water area and when we bought the house, the toilet had so much limescale that it was brown. It took a few days of bleach and scrubbing, but we got it off.

We have to bleach it every other day otherwise it starts building up again quickly.

We had this once and purchased “toilet renovation kit” from HG for about £5.
It gradually worked and involved leaving a tablet in the bowl overnight. It might take a few tries but it usually goes. They provide gloves and some sort of scourer too.🤢
Dread to think how toilets are allowed to get like this - surely people use bleach regularly 🤮🤮
Good luck, love the idea of using coca cola- would deffo try that 👍👍

Just make sure you dont mix the chemicals you choose, do one thing, wait and then do another. It can be extremely dangerous to mix chemicals you could cause a toxic mix so be careful
